Judge Hodges called the regular
criminal docket In the city court yes
terday. Solicitor Felton Hatcher rep
resented the state In all the cases.
Jim Holland, colored, was found guil
ty by the Jury of itcaling a camera,
valued at $50, from Mr. Ross White.
Josephine Clements, colored, not guil
ty of receiving stolen property.
Alf Reid, colored, guilty of carrying
concealed weapons. He was sentenced
to six months on the chain-gang or u
tine of $75.
C. E. Orr, white, was found not guilty
of carrying concealed weapons and as
sault and battery.
It Is probable that several days will
be taken up In hearing the criminal
docket.
Next week the civil calendar will bt
called. A list of the cases has been
published In the Telegraph.

The dead has come back to life! Du
pre© Holmes, thought to have been
murdered and his body thrown Into a
creek, sudenly turns up, sound and
well. He had been to an old saw-mill
secluded part of the county and
was taken sick, which fact, he states,
detained’ him longer than he anticipa
ted.
During Holmes* unexplained and mys
terious absence, a mob, susplclonlng
that iAroy Gibbons, an old colored
1, bad killed tho young man, visited
the aged darky's homo. The old man
had heard of the mob's coming, and
stealthily stole away to Louisville and
put himself In charge of tiherlff Far
mer.
Not to be outdone, the crowd, who
had come to reck vengeance on one
whom they supposed mndo away with
Holmes, proceeded to whip Gibbons'
wife, In order to oxtort u confession
from her. The old woman. It la said,
In order to save her life, stated that Tier
husband Killed Holmes with n hoe und
threw his body into the creek.

LOUISVILLE. Go.. June 1.—The my»*

to a saw mill In the Isolated portion of
tho district and was taken 111 nnd could
not get back until yesterday. Although
he claims that he wqs only a few miles
nwny, he hud heard nothing of the ex
citement that had been created by his
disappearance. Briar creek had been
dinggeil for miles In search of his dead
body.
Leroy .Gibbons, an honest, peaceable
old negro, 65 years old, came In an Inch
of being lynched.- Raco trouble In the
district enmo near at hand, and still
Holmes claims thnt ho hnd heard noth
ing of It. The old negro, however,being
fleet-footed, escaped from the mob and
made his way to tho sheriff here for
protection. He wns later removed to
Macon to avoid being lynched.
Ills old wife wns swung up and beat
en almost Insensible by the mob, nnd
to save her own life she told them that
her husband had killed Mr. Holmes and
placed his body In Briar creek. A re
port of a like character was frightened
out of a little grandson of tho old ne
gro, 0 years old. The old woman 1h In
a precarious condition, nnd sho may
lose her mind from the strain.
As soon as It became known that
Holmes wns alive, Sheriff Farmer Im
mediately wired tho Jailer nt Macon
