51ACON, June 1—The last thirty bales

New York Cotton Letter.
NEW YORK. June 1—The cotton mar
ket opened firm at an advance of 3a6
points and, following the call, while not
particularly active, showed still further
strength, particularly on the hew crop
months under firmer cables, apprehen-
henslons that the floods In the Southwest
would work down Into the cotton country
and covering.
Under these circumstance! the new crop
was advanced before, midday to a new
high level for the season, Boptember sell
ing up to 10.21, October 9.77 and Decem
ber to 9.C. Following this, however, the
market turned easier under realising.
There was a more favorable turn In tho
weather and It seemed to be thought that
the floods were not likely to reach the
cotton country In* sufficient volume to
work any material Injury. Exports for
the day were heavy, amounting to 18.775
bales, but the port receipts turned out
heavier than originally estimated, being
3.fl»i bales against 2.661 bales last year,
while the Into sight for the week was es
timated at around 62.000 bales against 43,00)
last season.
The better accounts from the dry goods
trade had little Influence In view of the
low price at which the finished product
Is selling compared with the price, of cot
ton, and It was argued that while the
government report of tomorrow will prob
ably reflect known conditions, the pres
ent level of prices discounts the damage.
The spot markets of the country also,
while firm, show little business, and the
spot sales In Liverpool amounted to only
9.600 bales. Influenced by these and pos
sibly encouraged by the Improvement of
the conditions of last week, noted In the
weekly weather bureau report, the mar
ket ruled easy all the afternoon. be|ng
finally barely steady at practically the
lowest or the session and net unchanged
to 6 potnta lower. Total sales of futures
were estimated at 160,00® bales.

JOHN R. WEEKS. Observer,
luhhnrd Droit. *t Mo.'s Cotton Letter.
NEW YORK, June 2.—Our market
opened with sales of July at U.19-20,
closed at 11.17. and after selling at 11.17-18,
ruled at 11.21 at 1 p. m.. barely steady.
After a firm opening on the good Liver
pool advices and tho expectation of a
poor bureau report tomorrow, tho market
eased on the bettor weekly reeport pub-
llshd at noon. It Is undrstood that tho
shipment* from our stock have commencel
a large scale. Nearly 80,000 bales are
believed to be now In process of shipment.
Locally, the feeling Is that we will have
a reaction after the recent advance on
crops, and this has brought new
selling orders from tho longs.. On this
theory, Liverpool Is expected to be lower
tomorrow, though tho rapid shipments of
cotton to the continent may check that
tendency, as nothing goes to Liverpool.
HUBB4RD BROS, A CO.
O'Dell d Co.’s Cotton Letter.
(Private wire to Macon Brokerage Co.)
NEW YORK, June 2.—Cotton futures In
the local market today opened Arm In
tone with first prices I to « points higher.
Such development was the result of tho
bullish advices from the English market.
Liverpool having advanced materially
over the holidays’ Interval In consequent
of the aerious flood nows. Private cables
were to the effect that shorts were un-
nd were Inclined to release tholr
commitments to the minimum. The local
response was slow to the foreign better
ment, however, though there was a steady
undertone throughout. The domestic ad-
vlcos with regard to the flood situation
to the effect that the danger was
too far removed from me cotton country
to do much harm. , The weekly summary
of the government attracted only atten
tion In view of tho close proximity of
the monthly report on the crop. Howover,
tho statement today was better than ex
pected, iuasmuch as it-showed favorable
conditions in many section* of the belt.
In tho Southwest, however, there Is plen
ty of room for Improvement Inasmuch
as the crop Is grassy. The spot markets
Were steady with a small demand. Tho
movement of cotton was fair, though gen
erally there were promises for a material
falling off before long. Private advices
were to the effect that the interior Is well
cleaned up of the staple.''
1. 11. -Master A Co.’a Cotton Letter.
NEW OYRK, June t-The cotton mar
ket openod nt an advance of I to 4 points
on moderate transactions. The Liverpool
market was higher snd fully responsive
upward tendency. There was mono
or leu rain In Texas nnd some In tho
Atlantic states, anj In Mew of ths Issue
of the bureau report of the later In tho
day, the shorts were k-«-i>lng well under
cover. Reports as to the crop were not
very encouraging. In fart, the news com
ing In was rather favorable tor the hull
sldrf. Here and there the crop Is doing
better, but on the whole slow progress le
being made and the Impression prevails
that the crop will have to do much bet*
ter If present price* are to give .way.
On the other hand, should we enter July
with no better crop prospects than today.
Ihe market should advance uonsldernble
on Ih# new crop months. The market
declined 6 to 7 polflts (luring the morning
on the appesmnee of the weekly bureau
report.- Cables were 9 to 16 points higher.
The bureau report In Texas and In other
sections were more bearish, but the
spreading of the boll weevil In Texas
seems to strengthan the new crop months.
