The residents on College street be
tween Georgia avenue and Jones
street, which Is to be paved, are tak
ing a lively Interest in the proposition.
All of them want the street paved, but
all pf them are not of one mind as to
the moat desirable knld of pavement.
The majority, however, from an lnqul-
isde yesterday want asphalt, with
vitrified brick a respectable favorite.
The following property owners express
ed themsrives:
Mr. Mallory H.aTylor—I am In favor
of an asphalt pavement as 1 think It is
the best for a residence street.
Mr. George W. Duncan—Put me down
for asphalt.
Dr. McHation—I prefer asphalt.
Mr. Caldtr Willingham—I prefer vit
rified brick to any other kind of pave*
meat.
Mr. Henry Wortham favors asphalt.
Mr*.' C. B. alWker prefers asphalt In
front of her residence.
Mrs. Appleton Collins prefers vitri
fied brick.
Mr. Campbell F. King—With my
present knowledge I prefer vitrified
brick.
Mr. Stewart C. Davie—You tan put
me down tn favor of asphalt.
31r. Joseph Napier—Everything be
ing equal, I favor avphalt.
Mr. Sam Dunlap—I prefer asphalt.
The bid* reported to round! Inst
night were somewhat of a surprise «o
a good many, ns Some of them were
much lower than was anticipated.
This was especially marked in some of
the bide for 'vitrified brick: and for
asphaU* paving.
One bid also, that of the Quincy
Granite Company of this city, contains
a. proponlrion to do the work on time
payments, fO per cent, each year, at 6
per cent. Interest on deferred pay
ments.
Every one cm College street Is look
ing forward to the time when it will
outclass any other residence street In
the state. In all but a good street
pavement. It la the premier residence
thoroughfare. Once It !* paved, the
visitor to Macon may be shown Its
length with no a mtsgtvlng as to the
Impression It will* mnke.
