NEW YORK. June 28-Wall street con
tinue* In a conaervatlv# and somewhat
hesitating mood. For conservatism there
• la still food reason, while for th* extreme
pessimism that prevails In some quarters
there le absolutely now no Justification.
The average buyer of stocks forgets that
’many of the depressing factor* which now
Influence him have been recognised by
■hrtwd operators weeks and months ago.
and that these conditions have .been large
ly, If not over discounted, by a decline
of JO to 40 point* In many of th* leading
stocks. Just now we are In danger of run
ning Into -a state of excessive peeeimlsm.
which la quite f hasardous as th* unrea
soning optimism which Induced all sorts
of excesses In 1901-42. 0 When desirable se
curities begin to sell below Intrinsic
values. Hot good hut harm follows from
forcing prices to a lower level; for con
fidence Is unnecessarily disturbed, enter
prise checked, and disaster Invited which
reason and Judgment should prevent.
What Is essentially needed r.r the moment
is careful discrimination. There Is no ex
cuse whatever for an undue loss of con
fidence, when corrective Influences aro
actively at work and the financial situa
tion has been greatly clarified by the enor
mous liquidation of th* last six months.
There are still undigested securities In ex
istence, but these are generally In st
hands, where they are likely to ri
awaiting conditions much more favorable
to their distribution than tba present. As
for the detrimental effects of lebor diffi
culties and momentary conditions, It is
probable that so far as the stock market
Is concerned these havs been sufficiently
discounted. powerful Interests havs
worked for s gradual decline, carefully
preventing all suggestions of panic, and
there la good reason for supposing that
these parties have meanwhile accumu
lated large lines of stocks to be held for
the rise. Whether liquidation In specula
tive quarters has boen complete nr n t
only time will dl*c!o**; but It Is quite
certain that the dsnger of panic has been
safely passed, and that the financial sltuv-
tlon Is much stronger than st any time
within th* last two years, the universal
eplrlt of conservatism which now pre
vails being in Itself an element of real
strength.
The money market outlook Is beginning
to attract Increased attention. Prepa
rations for July interest and th* Pennsyl
vania stock subscription may cause tem
porary derangement next week, but sub
sequently nothing will Interfere with the
money situation until the usual crop and
trad* requirements develop next fall. For
months past there has been apprehension
of tight money In the coming autumn.
The banks, however, have been anticipat
ing this contingency, and liquidation has
been hastened In consequence, so that the
danger Is now very remote. A good deal
of unnecessary uneasiness has
Ifested st the high level of I

Though th* season is wry backward still
condition* of wheat, corn and cot
ton are such as to promise abundant yield
should the weather, pending.the harvest
be s fair average. Merchants are operat
ing cautiously, th* high prices of many ar
ticles of merchandise checking consump
tion and preventing the carrying of large
stocks. Manufacturers sre often embar-
seed by labor exaction* and ths diffi
culty of securing better prices for their
products. 80 long as consumers could b*
mad* to pay for these Increased costs
th* demands of labor were readily ac
ceded to. The situation now. however,
to changing, and agitation of this sou to
on th* wane. Railroad esrnlngs continue
large and the Iron Industry preserves Its
remarkable activity; yet In both of these
divisions of Industry profits are diminish
ing and little tald In heard of Increased
dividends.
Very soon midsummer activity will be
upon us and no decided movements In
either direction need be expected. Nev
ertheless, the market haa settled down
to s lower and Safer basis In recognition
of recent events. Hence on all decided re
actions good stocks are a purchase for

In the first opening of Oklahoma to

was among the many seekers after for

day In April. During his traveling
about and afterward hts camping upon
bis claim, he encountered much bad
water, which, together with the severe
heat, gave him n very severe dlnrrhoea,
which It seemed almost Impossible to
check, and along in June the rase be
came so bad he expected to die. One
day one of his neighbors brought him
one small bottle of Chamberlain’s Colic,
Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy ns a
last hope. A big dose was given him
while he was rolling about on the
ground In great agony, and In a few
minutes the dose was repeated. The
good effect of the medicine v

was taking his first sound sleep for a

night. Mayor B. P. CYenslmw was com
pletely exonerated of the charges pre
ferred against him by Policemen
Woodward and Campbell. The Charges,
which were sensational In their nature*
were brought against the mnyor la»t
week when the policemen named re
signed. For some time there has been
a lack of lmrmony between the mayor
and the police force. Thfrc were cir
culated numerous rumors about the
mayor’s connscllon with blind tigers
and the feeling becamo so strong, that

council setting forth their reason in

the Importations and exportations by

show that while the exportation of
