score of 0 to 2. The feature of th
Kim* was the absence of kicking on
declalona made by .the umpire. In the
game yesterday not a single kick waa
registered. Both teams playod fast
1 | ball, only one hour and a half being
0 I required to finish the nine innings. The
® ‘ features of the game were the heavy
q j and long hits made by several players
0 1 on the local aggregation. In one In
ti nlng a pair of three baggers and a
0 | home run were knocked. The closing
game of the series Is to take place this

Bayne Is due to pitch in the
opening game against the Jays tomor
row afternoon. Though he was shot to
pieces nnd hta salary arm torn almost
Into shreds during the fusllade of
swats directed ngalnst him the morn
ing of the fourth he Is now as well as
ever. Brlndle should land the opener
with ease.
This la an off day for the locals, the
Arnt one which the team hns hod for
hcveral weeks, Sunday's, excepted. The
Mnron sons of swat will nevertheless
he moving slong lively ns they leave
this morning for the Florida everglades
there to attempt to trim the Jnys. The
last series In the home of the Jays
proved disastrous to>M a con* Out of the
three engagements the Highlanders
annexed hut one. May It he much bet
ter thla time. Since our last series In
Jacksonville Manager Kelley has way
laid and held n number of new ball art
ists. The new men he has placed In
choice positions around his tom and
today the line-up of the Jays Is Quite
healthy.
The fans In Augusta have not nearly
gotten over the severe thumping whicn
th* Tourists received on the fourth.
Those two games that the tailenders
raked out knocked the hopes of tho
Augustans higher than one of Strader's
flies and perhaps you may be able to
work out the distance above ground
that a tly of his goes. After winning
about eight successive, games the Tour
ists began slumping In their last perles
with the locals at Central City. Since
then the toboggan has » reri kept slick
hy the rapid downward rushes of tho
Travelers. There Is no telling how long
the descent will continue.
Catcher Accorslnl who was with the
Memphis Frankfurters last season has
been secured by Nashville. Bennett
who has been doing the receiving for
the Fishermen Is a much better third
haseman than catcher^Neut Fisher not
ing the fact rounded up Accorslnl.
Neut himself la somewhat of a catcher
hut Is growing rather torpid nnd too
pudgy to take jwrt In more than one
game 11 week behind the stick.
Down there in Augusta the fans to
day. In a voice almost a whisper nnd
shrouded by the but* of large stogies
are mournfully walling.
"We ain’t got no regular place as round
the league we roam—
Makes no difference from Jackson
ville to Oulltown,. hy the pond,
Any old place we get our humps Is
home, sweet home, to Con."
Tho first half of the present season
of warfare In the .reulma of the South
Atlantic League has passed. The wind
up of the first section blew in on the
afternoon of the fourth following Ihe
douhleheadcrs which were played In
three league towns. Up to the present
the league has been strong and has
been a making adventure. The league
cities have been patriotic as a rule Ip
regards to helping out their home
teams. The attendances though small
In two cities have been on the average
good. The hall that hr.s been played so
far la of a much better class than was
expected to he put before the season
opened. The managers of ull the teuma
have been spent large sums of coin In
order to place strong teams upon the
flrhl. With the exception of Columbia
al the tenma have a good chance for
landing the rag and even Columbia Is
not yet completely lost. The team that
la standing at the foot has In Its ranks
a number of ns good players aa are In
the league. Hard luck dutibg the open
ing month let Columbia hit the bottom
and though she has played great ball
of late the team haa been unable tq lift
Its head from the rear end of the last
division.
A large crowd waa at the detail yes
terday afternoon and cheered Itself
hoarse at the good playing made by the
locals. The leather lunged rooters were
present and kept things busy between
the ticks of the telegraph.

There are some other things, also, to
be considered In this eonn*cilpn:
The exchange prices on the state books
are fifty per cent, less than the prices
here given, so that tho change from ono
series to the other could be made at little
expense.
The prices given under the head "Books
Now In Use In Macon" are the list prices
of publishers, at which price* the books
should he sold to the pupils of the Macon
and Bibb county schools, ubt there Is
no guarantee whatever that the hooks
are sold at these prices; Indeed. It is more
than probable that they are sold by the
booV. dealers of Macon at an advance on
th**/<e prices. On the other hand, the state
books must he sold at the prices named,
oecaiise these prices are plainly stamped
on the books, and the dealers who are
regularly rontr.-v-ted with to sell them
are under bond not to vary in the slight
est from these prices.

ed defeat in a large and plentiful dose
to the Doody Co. team by the score

Greshams favor thereby still further
clinching their hold upon the flrat place
In the league standing.
Much credit for the victory is due
