THE LOCAL MARKET.
MACON. July 7.—The local market Is
dull. Quotations nominal.
Middling 10%; Good Middling 10%.
k*t opened steady at an advance of 3n6
points, which was hardly as much ns
warranted by the higher atbles, partic
ularly In view of the continued talk of
too much rain In the Central and West
ern sections of the belt, it seemed at
first, however, as though room longs were
taking profits at the advance, and there
was also some scattering selling from
Southern sources that tended to restrict
the advance. I,ocal shorts were covering,
however, particularly the Wall street <

active and went up more rapidly than
op the advance. The high point
reached In the late trading, when July
sold at 10.61, a gain of 45 points; August
at 10.59, a gsln of *8 points, while the
new crop months showed net advances

to covering of shorts.who were unsettled
by the continued firmness of Liverpool

Receipts of cotton nt the ports today
were 2,ft2T bales against 4.230 bales
last week nnd $93 bales last year. For
the week 16.000 bales against 17.4SO bales
last week and 14.622 hntes last year. To.
day’s receipts at New Orleans were 373
bales against 13 bales last year, and nt
Houston 17 bales against 16 bsles last
year.

market on the bureau report showed that
the short Interest was large and that the
figures had been discounted. There has
been but little buying beyond that of the
shorts. Crop reports art almost . too

buying, despite the ruling high prices.

NEW YORK, July 7.—'The cotton fu
ture market opened steady, but the early
fluctuations were a, disappointment In

pricey were 3 to 6 points higher, but

than expected. Besides these firm cables,
the climatic conditions attracted much
attention. There was too much rain to
