In speaking of the proposition of the
state legislature to tax the retail
druggists of Georgia $.*00 on proprie
tary medicines containing alcohol to
an amount indicated by the United
States riiarmacopia. one of the most
prominent drtutglsls of Mancon yester
day said that it was certainly a heavy
burden on even the largest dealers, but
that for the small druggl.st it would
practically mean extinction.
Tim retail druggist in this state now
pays 520 to carry on his business, then
oda water privileges he pays 56
more, for tobacco he pays another 55.
the like amount for selling can
dles, thus bringing the total tax up to
540 or 550. There are o*her lines of
business, that sell nearly every conceiv
able article and yet paid a tax for one
line only, and he thought it was unjust
to the drug dealers of the state.
