The Georgia Ginnors convention met
yesterday at noon In the city hall. More
than sixty-seven gins were represented
ai the meeting and the meeting was
both largo and interesting. The day wan
taken up In the transaction of the big
ness of the organization and at 5
o'clock the convention adjourned for
tb« 1 oar.
W. D. Hammock, of Coleman, was tin
the chair when the meeting opened. He
has held the place since the organiza
tion began three years ago and his ser
vice through the present meeting waa of
especial Importance. This is his last
year as president of the organization,
he having resigned from the office at
the present meeting.
. There was n large attehdance of the
ginners at the session. When the.meet
ing opened Capt. Thomas B. Blake of

ance, uniform charges for ginning,
charges and tare on cotton and meth-

Charges were left to be regulated by

mended, however, that 30 cents per
hundred pounds should be the mini
mum charge for ginning.
The discussion ns to uniform bag
ging and ties showed this question n

conclusion was reached that 27 pound
bagging and ties should bo put on each
bale of cotton. This was put In the
form of a resolution and passed by the
body.
At the afternoon session the officers

Fourth street, in the vicinity of Jen
kins, was thrown Into a state of confu
sion Monday afternoon as the result
theft made by a negro man upon
the home of another negro. A volley
pistol and gun shots aroused those

riot wns taking place, a large num
ber on hearing the shots hurried to the
scene of action.
About 3 o'clock In the afternoon a
negro man, whoso name Is thought to
Williams, ontered the home of a ne-
gress named Esslt. From various cor
ners and closets he secured. It Is stated,

preparing to take his leave of the house

thief, uttered loud shrieks of horror.
The man made his way as rapidly as
possible to a ditch situated a few yards

ted:
"Resolved. That the Georgia Ginners*
Association extend to tho mayor and
aldermen of Macon their thanks and
appreciation for tho use of the city hall
during the session of the association
and for the courtesies ez’**nded them
during their stay In the city.
"The meeting of today wns a suc
cessful one from every standpoint."
said one of tho members after adjourn
ment. Those who attended found a
much larger meeting than had been ex
pected and those present went directly
Into the business on hand so that every
thing was disposed of before the end of
the session.
Many of those present reported fine
cotton crops In their sections. They
stated that the ginners would likely be
busier tty is season than they had been
In several years.
The ginners were so pleased with
their present meeting In Macon that
they voted to come again at the next
mooting. This will be held hero on
Tuesday after the second Sunday In
July, 1905. Those who were present
yesterday left the city last night for
i their respective homes.
