Augusta Is not a team of “Has
been*,” after all.
To be shut out by Charleston Is bad
enough, but to have the doae npplled
by the cellar scrapers Is something
bordering upon the fierce.
Up until the closing section of the
eighth yesterday It looked as If Polly
Polchow would register a no-hit game,
thus duplicating the record made by
Persons of Jaytown.
Stewart and Sentell were the only
Highlanders that yesterday connected
with the benders tossed over by the
ex-Southern leaguer. Polchow had us
ali fooled. During the greater part of
tho game he throw nothing but straight
balls, using no curves whatsoever.
Our old friend Stlckney was missed
In center field yesterday on the side of
the visitors. We are used to seeing him
traveling around there amid the tall
weeds but yesterday his presence was
regretted by many. He was at the game
all right holding a seat upon lhe bench
throughout Just* before the game ho
mnde his way to a tonsorinj shop and
* 1 his looks shaved clean to the skull.
erhaps the loss of his flowing tresses
caused him to occupy 0 box on the
bench instead of a position In the gar
den. There Is nothing short about
Stlckney except his hair, and that’s
growing.
One of tho hottest series that has
been played In many a dny Is now tak
ing place between the Jays of Florida
nd the Gulls of Ashenback. The game
Monday resulted In a hard tie and yes
terday It was only permitted the Jnys
to win nfter battling for two overtIm
rounds. Chappie worked on the line for
the winners and allowed but a few pal
try and scattered singles.
Just as a gentle reminder of the luck

ple against the Tourists yesterday com
pared to the hAVoe ho wrought amid
their ranks when the Highlanders were
playing In Augusta last. There he won
two games In almost as many hours.
Yesterday he was hammered hard and
lost his game, being kalsomlned. Such
Is baseball.
Failure to hit yesterday was the
prime cause of the locals’ downfall.
Time and time again during the latter
moments of play a timely hit would
have been good for runs. Try as they
might the Macon batters could not
