Life Maynard wan In hla old tlrrv-
form yesterday, and aa a result eaue-
! the Cordele aggregation over the slid

out. Score, one to nit, and the boy
from TennUIe art glorying today. And
well they might, for the game waa on'
of tho fastest and prettleat that ha
been played upon tho local arena In
many a day, Tho college boys who
tilled tho positions on both teams
worked with college spirit, and played
from one Inning to another with that
snap and vigor enjoyed by enthusiasts.
The one lone run scored In the gamo
was pushed around the paths In the
sixth. Lambert opened up by smashing
out a three bagger, scoring Ipter upon
Leigh's drive. This run waa the only
one negotiated, though In a number of
Instances things assumed a tallying as
pect Neut fielding and fast work In
all parts of the game resultd In keep
ing (he score at a low water, mark.
The pitching of our old college chum
Life Maynard was a feature. Llge
failed to pass a man to first on either
a bunch of balls or by plugging them
In the riba with hot ones. His control
was excellent, and the three hits regie*
tered against him were all of the
scratch brand. One of the safeties
came within eeven-eighth* of an inch
of a fielder's fervid grasp. Another
one went booming along to Taylor,
who nabbed In a fraction too late to

fly landing the game yeMterday
afternoon TennUIe has now a good
chance of winning the state amateur
pennant. Two more games are to be
played at the local park this week,
one today and the lost tomorrow. The
team grabbing two of the three con
tests is to be considered in state circles
the champion of Georgia. Rivalry at
present between Cordele and Tennllle
has been at a white heat ail season,
and It was decided sometime ago to
play for the championship upon neu
tral grounds. In the gamo this after
noon Wild BUI Clarke, of Houthern
League fame, will pitch for Cordele.
Weyman Hannon, the noted Georgia
half back, and one of the fastest sprin
ters and best state pitcher, will twirl
for TennUIe, Quarles and Marvin Dick
inson will catch.
Through the fact that the m%nage-
tnent of the two teams have been so
kind as to give a large percentage of
the gatb receipts to the city hospital.
It Is expected that a good attendance
will be out. Those who were present
yesterday were pleased with tho game.

MACON SHUT OUT
BY THU TAIL ENDERS
COLUMBIA, 8. C., July 2*.—Macon
lost to Columbia today by a score of 2 to
0. The game was faat, and rave for the
first Inning, when Macon made a couple
ol flaring errors, was well played
throughout. Macon, up first, went out
without damage to the score board. Gun-
tor, first up for Columbia, sent an easy
one to Blake, who fumbled and the batter
reached first. Kuhn was hit by a pitched
ball. Shea filled the bases on Bentell's
error at abort. Dexter and McCarthy
filed out. With two men down Bueaae
dropped a neat “Texas leaguer" over
the shortstop's bead and two men scored.
Doly retired the side. There the score
remained for the rest of the nine Innings.
Begs re, for Macon, was effective but
a little wild. After a succession of rapid
four tips, Quinn got s hard one on tho
left side of hla hesd and whs succeeded
behind tho bat by ffarnlsh. Quinn Is not
seriously hurt. Macon did not bat In her
usual form, end Engel seemed .to havo
tho Maronltea at hla mercy. The few hits
were widely M attered, Not onco wss Co

did not reach third during tho entire

And all this
endera.
That Columbia dub has been throw
ing the geff Into the locals awfully of
late. Throe oat of the last four yir-.ies
with the tail endera have been landed
by those of Carolina.
F>gars pitched the game. This la the
fi-st time that he hax worked for the
locals In several weeks. The local funs
ulll recall hla great work In the first
game he pitched In Jaytown when he
(.truck out nine of the first ten men up.
Two big errors made by Macon Is
largely responsible for the loss of tho
game yesterday.
Shades of the bygone Mohicans! Co
lumbia played errorless hall. The fra
grant showing of the cellar champions
puts a new aspect upon the status of
league affairs. If the footers can trim
the top notchers In ouch a breezy style
what will they do to the other clubs?
Engle turned the trick and smeared
the contents of the pickle vat over Ma
con in a manner too bad to mention.
Two shut outs In the past two weeks
for the leaders Is fierce. Still there Is
nothing like handing bunchea of en
couragement to the wearied towns of
this league.
Rain and moistened turf played hav-
cc with the other games in the league
yesterday. These belated showers havo
taken days when gan^es are scheduled
to break in ball affairs, thus piling up
the lists of postponed contests. Macon
has fared well In this line. So for but
one or two extra gnmea have been
posted upon the local game sheet.
These will be shoved In at the first
spare moment
While the locals enjoy the exclusive
joy of casting their pruning Imple
ments into the form of the wayworn
Gamecocks this afternoon the Path
finders will be attempting to side track
their bnd moments by ploying the Sea
Gulls. Mull thinks that it Is now high
time to prepare the birds for a baking.
To trim the feathered creatures he will
use his crack slabman, Connie Welsh,
today. Jaytown and the Tourists open
a series this afternoon. Jaytown is tho
point selected for the coming wallop-
logs of the recruits of Wlngard. The
new Augusta mogul, Harlan Wlngard,
Is a railroad man and has not yet been
able to accompany the team upon Its
jaunts through the circuit. Harlan be
moans the fact but after all It Is just ns
well. He geta his shekles for being nice
nnd staying at home and at the same
time escapes the chances of contract
ing heart trouble that might arise from
seeing his paid men lose games
That Tennllle-Cordele fray played at
the local enclosure yesterday was filled
with many thrilling deeds and valorous
happenings. It was a game In which
Georgia met Mercer. The Cordele club
has In Its ranks many old players who
this spring flaunted the bands of the
eld red and black. Tho Tennllle club
played a number of Mercer men. nnd
as usual Tennllle triumphed. It was no
bloodthirsty riot. Tennllle won by one
lone run. So did Mercer In many a game
this spring. Maynard pitched his team
through the gates nnd at t^ie end low
ered the Cordele batch over the edge
shut out. A second game will be played
this afternoon and through the fact
that It Is to be played In the Interest of
the City Hospital a goodly-sized throng
should attend.
A Crushing Defeat.
CLINTON, Gn., July 23.—James Sta
tion went down In defeat at the hands
of the Clinton bnseball team by the
score of 21 to 6. James was simply out
matched at every point, and but for the
Indifference of the Clinton team nfter
the sixth Inning, the score would have
bepn much larger In their favor. James
has recently defeated Roberts In two
games, one of which was a shut out,
nnd likewise defeated Gordon on lost
Friday.
Thus far this season Clinton has
played eleven games, winning seven,
losing three, with one tie game, giving
her a percentage of 700. Clinton has
one of the best diamonds to be found,
and her team Is constantly at practice.
Vlnevllle and Clinton will cross bats
Saturday.
