Marshall Jones, the negro who was
placed In the station house. several
days ago with a charge of being a
"suspect" marked against him, was ar
raigned before Recorder Nottingham
of the police court yesterday morning
to answer to several charges.
It is thought by Macon detectives
and by out of town authorities that
Jones is the negro that hns been com-
lttlng a big string of thefts, not only
In this city but also In Fort Valley.
During the latter part of last week
a number of thefts were reported to
the police, of Macon residences. In
each Instance several valuable articles
were secured from prominent Macon
homes. Mr. R. L. Sparks of Washing
ton street, and Mr. W. O. Kennedy of
Madison street, are two of the Maeon-
ltes who have reported losses at the
police headquarters. From the Spark
residence was obtained last week a
quantity' of silverware, valued at over
$200. The Kennedy residence was
burglarized, the thief securing a quan
tity of clothing and a valuable revolv
er. In each Instance admittance was
gained Into the residences by a portion
of the window cnslng being removed,
the glass pane being first cut.
Whether the police have the right
man is not yet known but Jones seems
to answer several descriptions given
the authorities.
After hearing evidence in the po
lice court that morning Recorder Not
tingham bound Jones over to the su
perior court to answer to the charge of
burglary.

To tho People of Georgia:
nrnestly call upon the people of
this state to come to the relief of the
Georgia Industrial Home, founded five
years ago, by Rev. W. E. Mumford.
The need Is emergent. Mr. Mum
ford has been incapacitated from active
work for eight weeks, owing to a most
severe Illness nnd the directors feel Im
pelled to appeal to the public.
The Georgia Industrial Home Is the
development of Mr. Mumford’s Idea the
waifs of the state—whether orphans or
not should be cared for. There are
many of these chlldreh who have par
ent# that cast them adrift. Orphan-
ges offer no open door to them. Be
ginning without a dollar, relying solely |
upon his faith In the good men and wo
men of the land, Mr. Mumford has ac
complished a magnificent work. He
ucqulrcd over 200 ncres of good
land fives miles from Macon. Upon
this land he has roared twelve houses
and equipped them. The Investment Is
orth $40,000 today. The number of
Inmates has steadily grown until now,
