There is a further petition for a re
ceiver for the road and damages, which
In the Judgment of the court
have been sustained by the petitioners
In the present transactions.
These prayers have been granted by
Judge Speer, and the sale of the road
in any event does not occur until the
petitioning stockholders have been giv
en a hearing in the United States
court.
Judge Emory Speor yesterday
granted an order restraining the sale
of the Brunswick and Birmingham
railroad ns advertised by Commission
er C. D. Ogg In Brunswick. The order
was passed upon the presentation of a
petition from the Ensign Oskamp Com
pany, Incorporated under tho laws of
West Virginia. The petitioners also
prayed for the appointment of a re-'
colver of the rallroud and the order
of Judgo Speer Included the require
ment that the railroad company
show cause immediately why such pe
tition should not be granted.
The Ensign Oskamp Company Is
In possession of $9,000 worth of the
stocks of the Brunswick and Birmlng-,
bum railroad, and claims that tho ma
jority of tho stockholders of the rail
road are engaged In an attempt to
defraud the minority stockholders by
disposing of the railroad In such man
ner as to prevent Ha bringing full val-

COLUMBUS, Ga., August 1.—A
gang of burglars nre operating in tho
outskirts of Columbus and among the
residences of the suburbs there is
much nervousness over which section
they will visit tonight. Saturday
night they operated on Rose Hill and
East Highlands and last night visited
quite a number of houses In Blbb-Clty.
At one place they stole a watch and
chain and an army pistol belonging to
Captain J. J. Hinder, then going to tho
home of C. A. Hatcher on Rose Hill
they ransacked bureau drawers but
found nothing to suit their fancy.
They were detected while trying to
break Into Dr. I. C. Evans’ residence
and ran away, going to tho home of
Dr. W. D. Sheridan in East High
lands. They stole $5.00 from his trous
. They then entered tho home
Edward Grady in East Highlands, tak
ing n watch and chain vnlued at over
$100 from under his pillow. A watch
and chain was stolen from under the
pillow of CapL Charlie VendalL The
burglars robbed no less than eight
houses In Bibb City last night, secur
ing small sums at each place.

to the excitement due to the murder
of the Hodges family, the Confederate
veterans* reunion that was to be held
here on Thursday has been postponed
indefinitely.
On the statements of Paul Reed and
Will Cato, John,Hall, colored, was ar
rested and lodged In Jail today.
A drummer hypnotised Handy Bell,
one of the suspects, In the Jail here to
day, but nothing new was developed.
The coroner's Inquest, adjourned
from Saturday to Tuesday, has been
postponed on account of the excite
ment.

Mr. S. B. Fielding, day chief at the

at Macon, left today for New York, and
Indiana. On his return Mr. Fielding

DALLAS, Texas, August 1.—Tho
Missouri, Kansas and Texas order of
railroad telegraphers In Dallas quit
work late this afternoon, obeying the
order for a strike of all the telegraph
ers employed on the Missouri, Kansas
and Texas system. Tho number of
men engaged In the strike along tho
line could not be ascertained.
At the office of Superintendent Mc
Dowell, of the **Katy” It was stated
that the trains wero running all right
and that no interruption In the ser
vice was anticipated as places vacated
by the strikers are being filled rapidly.
The wage schedule Is said to be onto
subject of disagreement, and pay for
overtime and shorter hours are other
matters which require adjustment.
The local members of the O. R. T.
claim to have no definite information
regarding the grievances causing the
strike, nor did they know a strike was
Imminent, until shortly before the or

Fourteen Persons Seriously Injjured in

head-on collision between electric cars
on the Boston and Worcester street
railway near Washington street cross
ing. three miles east of this towtv to
day resulted In serious Injury to four
teen persons, one of whom has since
died, while the death of a second (a
momentarily exported tonight.
Mrs. Caroline Stewart was Injured
Internally and' died at tbe hospital in
Framingham a few hours after .the ac
cident. Edward Doe. one of the mo-
tormen, was frightfully Injured, and it
tftfiaid he cannot recover. Mtsa Maud
Maguire, an actress, whose stage name
Is Maud Thornton and whose home Is
In Boston, had her right leg crushed
and Is In a serious condition. Her leg
had to be amputated.
The others Injured are expected to
recover The accident occurred at
noon on a curve at a steep incline snd
was due to a misunderstanding of or-
