10 First Street. Macon, Ga.
Macon's pitching corps has received
a new member In tho form of "Polly”
Polchow, of Augusta, traded for Whip
ple. Likewise the local catching staff
has been added to. as Chandler, also of
Augusta, has been truded from the
Tourists for Quinn. In the place of
Whipple, Polchow will pitch, nnd In
the stead of Tom Quinn. Candler will
hold forth from behind tho rubber.
The deal was completed last night
after a conference between the mana
gers and moguls of the Mnccn and Au- ,
gusta clubs. The transaction is about
as evenly balanced n ono as could bo
made. While Whipple wos not as
good a slabman as Polchow. Quinn had
u much better throwing arm than did
Chandler. Macon needed another good
pitcher and now she has tym in the
shape of the former Southern leaguer.
While fighting In tho Southern under
the ranks of Lew Whistler last year
Polchow was considered one of the best
slsbmen In the league. With the local
twrlllng corps connlstlng of Bayne. Pol
chow. Segars and Matthews whxt bet
ter could bo wished.
No doubt the fnns will halo to see
the battery leave Macon, but nt the
samo time the Interests of the team
were tho foremost considerations in the
deal. By the addition of the two new
men the team has been strengthened
a number of points. Itamlrh will still
continue to bear the brunt of the back-
stopping, while Chnndler will be ur.od |
In the pinches.
