NEW YORK, Aug. 20—The cotton mar
ket opened firm at an advance of 7a9
points in response to bullish Liverpool ca
bles, of both a private and public char
acter. The shorts covered actively nt
first, beini
first, being rendered uneasy by the pros
pect for showers over Sunday, as well as
by the firmness abroad and prices after
the opening were advanced another few
points on the active months. But scat
