The game yesterday afternoon at
Central City park waa aa full of excit
ing momenta aa a young cocoanut ia of
juice, and the way In which the spec
tator* made things lively would have
done credit to a aide ahow In a slx-
rlng clrcua. To cap the afternoon'll
performance Macon won the game, the
last with the Gull* In Macon this aea-
•on. ,
It was fitting salute. Macon had
always a hard rival In the Birds, and
now that they have flitted from the
local coop for the remainder of the
year Is a .cause of much merriment to
many.
'No Hit Childs" worked from the
cehtpr of the field for the visitors, but
hla handle was of no use. As far as
the gamVof yesterday was concerned
Polly Polchdw. deserves tho title much
more fully than does the slabman that
thoughtlessly mowed down the luck
less Jays some few days ago. But one
paltry single was taken from Polly,
the duck-llke salaried man who draws
his coin from Billy Smith. Poll was
there all right and delivered the gopds
In handy fashion. Charleston Smith
was the only Bird successful In bat
ting endeavors. It was In the open
ing round that the visiting backstop
hit safe for a little dinky single that
wormed Ita way past Sentell and out
to Stewart. From this point on there
was absolutely nothing stirring In the
hit-getting line for the Gulls. Until
the sixth, however, Macon fared rather
alimly In punching out hits. Stewart
hit safe to right In the fifth, but his
successors failed to mnke .good with
the stick. In the sixth, after Llpe had
gone by the board, the ball was given
a bulky shove by Chandler. The new
Highlander Umded against the leather
squarely and when It had been corraled
he was resting on station I. Childs
looked worried. He bent to Ms task
with a somewhat weakened ardor.
Sentell was the next to face the Bird.
He also took a shot at the big man
and punched out another clean hit,
sending Chandler scudding around to
third. Childs moistened his clammy
pitching paw with a pinch of rosin and
fired a hot one toward the platter.
George Stinson met It squarely, and
as he raced to first, both Chan and
Sentell scored,
It waa now about 20 minutes before
4 o'clock.- Before the engagement be
gan H was understood between the
managers and Umpire Grim that the
gume waa to be called at a quarter to
five In order to allow the visiting ath
letes time to dress And catch the out
going train. Ashenhack wns holding
forth upon the visiting players’ bench,
but sighting the fuxllade directed
afcalnst hla premier slabman. did a lit
tle aide thinking. He opined that If
Mncon could be held at the bat until
ufter fifteen minute* to five Umpire
Orlm would call the gnme and declare
the score 1 to 0 In favor of hla team
on even Innings played. Hla thoughts
may have been well connected, and
then again probably not. At any rate
Ash signalled his men to kill time.
When Blake launched out an easy fly
to Mitchell the little fielder allowed the
ball to allp through hts fingers. After
reaching flrat Blnke walked around the
paths and scored without Interference,
as each Charleston player threw tho
ball wide Instead of attempting to put
out the locals' middle baseman. The
gume had by this time turned Into a
farce. Childs wns ahootlng the balls
against the backstop, while Stewart,
who waa nt the bat. made vicious
swipes at all of them in his nttempts
to get called out., thus closing the In
ning and ending the gnme. Grim sur
veyed the tactics until It lacked exactly
fifteen minutes to five. Then with 11
somewhat more or less imperious
sweep of his two big mtts he announced
that It was all over and that Mncon
as the winner, and Ash got hot In the
