MISCELLANEOUS.
•elver Butler of the First Na
tional Bank yesterday received about
600 checks to be paid out to creditors
on the second dividend. The payment
of the 25 per cent, dividend will begin
9 o'clock Monday morning.
The amount to be paid out on the
second dividend will be about $157,000.
The receiver has made all arrange
ments for the payment of the divi-
iend on Monday and will meet the de
positors with the checks aa fast as
they appear.
The depositors will be calling for
their money during nil of next week
but when this dividend has left tits
bank the greater part of the money
will have been paid out. It Is verv
probable that the work which has been
done to enable the payment of 65 per
cent. Is not ns great as that which
must be done In tho future to acquire
funds for the further payment of the
creditors.
There nre many accounts to be col
lected which have not yet come duo.
Thcro nre many more of these which
will require close attention, and al
though there are mora dividends to
come, the receiver will be busy for
several days before ho can make an
other announcement.

Children’s Many Misfortunes.
In the ages of children up to twelve
years, the«r misfortunes, from baby’s
prickly heat to the boy's open sore,
are many. Few parents realize the
therapeutic value of sulphur for skin
diseases nnd Impure blood.
Hancock’s Liquid Hulphur. Nature’s
Greatest Germicide, Is Indispensable In
a home where nre children—It may he
taken Internally or applied direct to the
affected parts.
Here Is the opinion of Mr. H. J. La
mar. Vlnevllle. Mncon, Gn.J We used
your Liquid Hulphur on our one-year-
old baby, who suffered intensely from
prickly heat over her entire body. A
half dozen applications in two days en
tirely relieved her nnd she slept sound
ly. You should recommend Liquid .Sul
phur strongly to mothers. It will prove
a blessing to ovory family with small
children.

Acting President W*. II. Kilpatrick,
of Mercer University, stated yesterday
that the prospects for the opening of
this Institution of learning for the com
ing year were nt this time even bright
er than the prospects of lost year, and
It will be remembered that last year
was a record-breaker in attendance ut
Mercer. It is stated that all Indica
tions point to a larger attendance at
Mercer at the opening this time than
has ever been known. Nearly 300 stu-
denta were in attendance at the open
ing last year. Home of these did not
make the classes nnd were compelled
to go to preparatory schools, but this
year the college authorities, both In
Mncon and nt other points, who have
been watching the canvnRs think that
a sufe estimate will place the number
at 300 for the coming term. Thnt
number Is expected to he matriculated
In the different branches of the uni
versity work.
It has ulready been reported that the
school of pharmacy, which has passed
its Initial year with great success, will
bo Inrgely nttended. nnd there are still
encouraging signs for a very lurge at
tendance. Tho school is now well es
tablished and Its work will begin to
show up with the end of another year,
when Its graduates start out.
The department of law has prospects
for n very Inrge opening. IIMens some
thing provents the nttendnee of those
who have been registered ns certain
In this branch, thu department of law
will again bo a strong factor In the
make-up of the student uttendanco at
Mercer.
It is announced nt the office of the
president thnt Dr. Pollock still Im
proves Ills condition Is very good at
present nnd if ho spends the entire year
In the mountains of North Carolina, nn
he had ut first Intended, It \h possible
that he will return In fine condition
