Mrs. John B. Cobb, president of the
Wesleyan Alumnae Association, profes
sor emeritus of the Chair of English,
and associate missionary secretary, will
be at the college before the opening this
fall. Bhe will very probably arrive next
Wednesday or Thursday and will re
main for a week until the opening. It
In likely that she will have part In the
opening exercises. If she apeaka to the
young ladles, she will have something
to say In the nature of a farewell ad
dress. Hho will go first to South Amer
ica and then there pre many other
travels which she Is to take before she
will return to the United States.
On the visit of Mrs. Cobb to Wesley
an It is expected that the Institution
will give this distinguished alumna a
parting reception before she goes
abroad In her new field. Hhe Is held In
high esteem at the college and by the
friends of tho Institution all over the
state and the South and Mrs. Cobb's
presence at the opening this time will
add much to tho Interest of the occa
sion. Hho has been long connected with
the college and Is known as a strong
factor In Southern education for wo
men as well as in the work in ^rhlch
she Is now engaged. The general public
will be pleased to learn that she Is to
be In Macon again before her departure
to see the work which Is now going on
at Wesleyan.
Prospects for Opening.
President Ouerry stated yesterday
that the opening at the Institution
promised this year to bo the largest
In Its history. lie said he lmd reserved
more room for the girls who are ex
pecting to attend than hnd ever been
reserved and with everything pointing
to an Immense attendance he has been
kept busy making preparations for the
reception of the new students.
A large amount of Improvements In
both buildings and grounds has been
done since the close last Juno and Wes
leyan at present, both buildings and
grounds, Is very beautiful In appear
ance. The terrace in front of the col
lege building Is at present overgrown
with grass where the old brick wall
stood nnd the walks have been put In
order so that tho whole scene at tho
collego Is an Imposing one.
"We could hnvo had n much larger
attendance at Wesleyan this year If
we had more room,*' said President
Ouerry. "The reserved portion of the
buildings ut present Is so large that
vated and beautified. This building will
contribute largely to the main ou'ldlng
of the memorial hall and the work
which Is to be done at present will be
directed towards converting It Into t.ie
hall. Jt will be und»*r course of erec
tion for several months and possibly
over a year. This building has been un
dertaken with much zea! and President
Ouerry will give much time and labor
to its erection.
Other Improvements being dlsctiastd
at present are the purchase of a pipe
organ and a better arranged Infirmary.
The plans for these two additions to
the college have been discussed along
with the others, but no positive deci
sion has been made for the purchase of
the organ or any change in the Infirm
ary. It la the purpose of President
Ouerry tc do a great deal In the line of
placing the latest and best advantages
for the girls who come to Wesleyan.
The buildings and furniture have been
put In r»e.dlnCM for the opening at
Weshyan at Me coming session and It
Is now only n short time before the col
lege girls will be coming back to re
sume their studies. The first work will
be done at the Institution at the coming
session on September 12th, when en
trance examination will be held.

Confederate Veterans become
greatly changed the next annual re

fall of 1905.
At the last weekly meeting of Camp
Macon held last Friday a proposition
was made to invite the state United
Confederate Veterans to select this
city as the site of their next annual
meeting. The plan was discussed
thoroughly before the meeting ad
journed and every member of the camp
left the hall with the Intention of doing
all that might be In his power to
bring about the much wished for se
lection. Since the meeting the lending
state officers of the state camps have
been Invited to select Macon for the
next encampment.
The members of Camp Macon have
a number of reasons to believe that
Macon will be the next place of meet
ing. Of course no city has yet been
selected nor will be for some time, but
nevertheless all Indications point to
the selection ot Macon.
