Come what may, the pennant In
cinched with bands of the strongest
teel for the home talent. Let Macon
lose all three remaining games while
the haughty trailers of Savannah are
attaching the bigger ends of their re
ining conflicts hud still the story in
t same. Should such a thing happen
that Macon should lose her next
ee games while the Mullitea are do
ing the heavy, we have the rag clutched
by a margin of four points.
Here is a photograph of how things
really are, and what might be tho re
sults if certain things come to pass be
fore the wind up. Should Macon lose
next three games In r. percentage
lay night will he .602. Should Sa-
lah stow away her remaining
games with the Gulls, three In number,
her percentage will be but 598. IIow
nice. A cosy difference of four points
parntlng the locals from the owners
f the lid berth.
Of course It Is very improbnhle that
the above things should happen, but
nevertheless the fans here are generous
enough to give every semblance of
doubt to the pushers. Its a twenty to
one shot that Savannah will never be
gin to win all of her games from tlv
ulls of Charleston, while It would be
nothing in tho slightest out of the ordi
nary for Macon to nlj) two of the three
at Jay town.
Such Is the status of affairs, ai)d to
day the fans of tho city are settling
back heaving deep pleasant breaths af
ter the anxiety has passed. They know
It feels good to belong to the tow
which such deeds are done and Macon
IT” Just at present, while the Sa
vannah club and the others are privi
leged to figure among thi ALSO RANS.
The Game Yesterday.
That pleasing, likewise enticing lit
tle ditty entitled "It’s All Over Now,"
was enacted In thrilling scenes at the
ball park yesterday afternoon, when the
loculs fired their parting salute and
won from tho Jays by the scoro of 10
to 1. Tho reports made by the con
stant Jamming of the bat against tho
ball was heard far uptown, nnd rosom*
bled In sound, a plkct firing In the dis
tance more than a gatpe of national
sport. From a quarter to four o’clock
until after five thirty tho dull boom of
the base hit, vuried by the occasional
plunk of a homo run. kept the rooters
i up to a high pitch of excite
ment. When tho firing was tho heavi
est, and as runs sped across the plate
in almost blinding succession fond
dreams of the near pennant, flitted
across tho visions of tho fans and later
on sympathetic thoghts for tho hand of
enthusiasts down at Savannah crowded
Into some of tho think tanks at tho
park.

AFTER THE GAME.
Three out of four from the Jays.
Savannah Is not the only mirror on
the mantel, after all. There nre others.
Batting averages were pushed tip
many a point yesterday ns the result
of the swat feast that took place In
the ball yard.
It's all over in Macon now as far rj»
the pennant is concerned. The rag
omes here, nnd today there are no
pplcr men in the city than President
•llx Kohler nnd Manager Billy Smith.
Both have worked hard and have won
out In a fight that has been Interesting.
Billy Blake has now made a record
of going through twelve games without
on error. During those twelve con-
testa tho local second sackman has
worked In not less than 113 innings nnd
he drew on the average of seven
chances per game. This gives him the
handling of eighty-four chances with
out a break,
Sentell has been leading the hitting
of late. In the last two games with
the Jays he has landed on opposing
pitchers for three hits per game. For
a man that 1s hardly able to be In the
game this Is something great. For a
layer who is working steudlly it la
even far above tho average.
Bayne goes to Atlanta Monday.
When the team left for Jacksonville
last night he was not among tho num
ber, Today nnd until Monday he will
eat from the many labors he has un
dergone during the season.
The benefit game which Is to be
played between teams headed by Billy
Smith and Sentell on Wednesday next
should draw well. The players got the
gate receipts, nnd If nny team should
•n help In this manner the Ma
in Is the one. The fourteen locnl
will b.- ilt'bb-il in two sqimds
and fast locnl players will ho used to
fill the breaks. After this game tho
team disbands nnd will bo seen no
more together until next season. Even
then some of the faces will be missed
ns Blake will probably be In big league
Circles In the North and Bayno In tho
Southern League. A number of the
other stars will scatter around to dif
ferent points. Blake received a letter
yesterday from Columbus, Ohio, In
hleh he was offered a position on the
•cond bag for tho Columbus club In
tho American Association,
Chester Jones, the hardest rooter In
town and the man who has labored
among the most faithful for the suc
cesses of the locnl club, presented each
member of the team last night with a
handsome scarf pin ns a souvenir of
their hard work during tho season.
Manager Smith's pin was In tho shnpo
of an Elk’s head, ns tho local player-
mnnnger Is a member of Ihnt order.
Tho players showed their appreciation
of the gift by promising to do tho same
