J’oitmatter Will Ask for Additional
Assistance During Christmas Holi-
days—Proaont Forea Doing Heavy
Work—November Business in Every
Department Has Shown Great In
crease Over Corresponding Month
Last Year. _____
Tha report of assistant Postmaster
Sllllyer RudlalU for the Macon poetof-
alco shows the greatest clean rise In
Justness for the month of November !
over that of last year for uny one
Onnnth In the history of the city. The
statement shows the postal receipts to
t>e I*.610.22. The postal receipts tm
the same month last year were 67.-
©86.65. This Is a total Incrsaso of 62.-
©00 over last year's business for No-
member.
This la the greatest Increase In
Biualnesa of any one month ever report- |
«d In Macon. It la not the record .
month for business, however. Octo)>er |
6s always tho best month In the year
nnd on account of this fact the reports
for the month show greater figures. In
(October this year ths business went
above 610,000 and It will be seen that
the November report has not outstrip-
3 (.I this. But the month of October
did not show nn Increase over October
last year os great as tho Increase this
lime over the inoath of November last
year.
The Increase In business has caused
the poitofTIr-c authorities In Macon to
tisk for additional assistance for the
Christmas holidays. It Is said that th-
,force now employed will not be able to
handle the business and other help will
ibe necessary. Every employe In the
■building has been under tho strain of
Ahe heavy work for the month of No
vember and It Is stated that the In
creasing hualnesa for tho holidays wilt
the far too heavy for tho force.
The outgoing mall from the postof-
f!ee now dally amounts to above 60,000
jplecea and the Incoming mall reaches
stbove 16,000 pieces. This will be great
ly Increased during tho month of De
cember.
In the money order department the
Increase has !>een vary great for the
Onnnth of November. Tho paid money
|ordert have numbered 10.614 for the
!?.»st month. The paid money orders
C..r November luet year were 7,042. The
dotal Increase ahows for the past
• with 116 dally orders over the dally
^business of November laat year.
“Our business Is fast Increasing."
raid assistant Postmaster Rudlslll. In
r peaking of the report for the outgo-
tug month. “The business for the en
tire fall has been largely Increased and
tf It Is to be taken as an Index to ths
increasing commercial growth In Ms if*
con, It can certainly be aald that the
[handsome gains mean unusual netlvl-
Hy for the city. The Increaae In tho
y,natal hualnesa I* a certain proof that
.Maron Is growing In some respects nnd
the greater part of our additional work
tomes sa a result of the Increased
i ommerelat activity In Macon."
