Will you ask your mother if she will Bee a reporter on that statement mads by Mrs. York?" Emil went to hla mother, talked to her In a low tone for a few seconds and then came back and aald hla mother would say something about It. Dying on the couch, and Interrupted at Intervals by alight nervous tremors, Mrs. Chsdwlck said In reference to Mrs. York's statement: 1 have not read ul! of It, but I wl'.l leave It to public opinion and to refined and educated persons what conclusions they might draw when one sister makee a statement like that against another sister." "Mrs. Chadwick, Is Mrs. York your sister?" "No. she Is neither my sister nor my half sister, nor my sister-in-law. We were raised together." "Will you say anything about har statement that you era Madame de Vera?" "I have made absolutely no state ment about this Madams de Vere bus Iness from beginning to end. Out of Justice to my little boy 1 would not do It at the present time. I don't think that any responsible person would pay any attention to a statement made by Mrs. York. '•Everything will work Its wsy out all right for ms and 1 don't want to say anything against Mrs. York at all. I shall make a statement hers In the very near future and nleo one In Cleveland. The nowspapers possibly have written up a great sensation, but I wish yuu to say that Mutisms de Vere's whereabouts and everything else In connection with this case will be shown In ii very short time. "In Justlco to my child, 1 don't think It right to make any further statement at this time." Mr. Chadwick, it Is Intimated In some of the afternoon papers that thla young woman you have here with you not your maid but a relative of yours, possibly your daughter. The young woman was sitting beside her and She . spoke up Immediately, saying: 1 am not related to Mrs. Chadwick In sny way; neither am 1 her mnld. 1 am her nurse. I am a graduate from the Nurse's Institution In Stockholm, Sweden, nnd 1 nm Swedish by birth.' Mrs. Chadwick told of the Oberlln bank failure, saying It would not have occurred If tho bank could have ob. talncd Ha funds In a Cleveland bank. It could not do so. she aald, because the run began on Baturday night, when the Cleveland bank was closed. She continued: If It had only happened differently the hank would not have had to fall, because the obligation would have bean paid. I would not like to live minute If I did not think I could paV these poor people back. I have asked Emil, my son. It anything should hap pen In ms that he would do everything to see that the obligations were paid.' "Mrs. Chadwick, those alleged Car negta notes have figured so largely as a sensational feature In this caso that no doubt tha public would like know what you had to say In relation to that." "Whatever Is said about those notes must ha aald by my attorney. Mr. Car. pouter. That Is an entirely different matter,” she replied. "Hut you already have been quoted aa denying that Mr. Carnegie hod any thing to do with your business affairs or that you had any notes of hla” "As I said before, you will have talk to Mr. Carpenter about that.'' tha woman gnawered. Good newa goes fast." said Mr. Tay lor yesterday, talking to a reporter about that wonderful new cod liver oil preparation, Vino!, which contains all the valuable medicinal principles of that famous remedy, but no oil, and concerning which so much is heard nowadays. "Why, besides being talk ed about In prominent papers in Ame rica. its principles have been discussed In the "Lancet" of London. England, the greatest medical publication in the world, This will show you whst the great men of the old world think of the VInol Idea. The editor of the Lancet says: "Recent Investigation has led-to the Isolation of several distinct bodies In cod liver oil, notably amongst which are the alkaloids. (We call them medlolnal curative principles.) These principles have been tested faithfully and the results form the subject of the exclusive report by Gautier and Mor gues In the Journal de Phnrmacle. who concluded that the combined active medicinal principles of cod liver oil act as powerful stimulants of nutrition nnd assimilation, and show definitely Ihe nature of the principles to which the oil owes Its valuable medicinal [properties. "This report proves that the real merit of cod liver oil was due to the alkaloids contained therein. Now It Is these valuable Alkaloids or active me dicinal principles, as we call them, that .ire contained In VInol, which make It the most scientific and valu able preparation of cod liver oil known to medicine. The Telegraph Is authorised by the Exchange Bank to say that It Is now carrying cotton In store for merchants and planters and la prepared to carry cotton, when stored In Macon and with proper margins all the cotton belong ing to the bank's territory. The Exchange Bank will be prepar ed, as usual, after the commencement of the New Year to extend the usual accommodation to the planting com munity upon well-secured paper. As the Exchange Bank Is now car rying about 1600,000 of cotton in Ma con It stands ready to carry $600,000 more. The prosperity of the Exchange Bank for over a third of a century h is been due to Its reliance upon toe farming interest. Its policy of gen erous accommodation will continue to be the same as It has ever been. Tho city attorney has been busy with this cuse for a long tlmo. and despite tho fact that there has been other heavy business on hand, he has prepared for the fight.
