A negro hack driver has succeeded
in finding executive clemency at the
hands of Macon’s recorder and now
rides his rounds with the remission of
a fine which he thought he was doom
ed to pay. Will Pye was on his hack
one night recently and allowed an of
ficer to pull him while asleep and this
started the trouble.
He was arraigned before the recor
der next morning and got his sentence.
This was the payment of a $6 fine.
Pye didn’t have the $5 and had not
made but $1 during the night. This
put him in a worse condition. He was
Imprisoned and cut off from the only
means he had of gathering In the coin
and there was no more profit In the
business to the negro. He had no
revenue and time was passing rapld-
■ly.
I A letter went to the recorder short-
: ly after the fine was Imposed. This
] was from a friend who was pleading
• In the hackman's behalf. ’’Will only
made $1 and he 1s lined $5.” wrote the
friend, “and your honor sees that he
was loser. Now, judge. I would not
bother your patience if I knew’
wasn’t a worthy cause. Knowing that
boy Is a good boy and that he
sick that night he was caught, which
was the cause of his being asleep. 1
ask you please, won’t you omit that
fine?"
Judge Nottingham read the lettor,
studied It over and then “omitted"
the fine. The negro hackman is again
oji duty and believes the recorder is
the best man in Macon. He does not
sleep oyer nights in his hack while
he stands on the corner and waits for
those who have need of men in his
profession.

GEORGIA DOWNS TEXAS.
Question of Extradition—Man Charged
With Forgery and Horse Stealing.
ATLANTA. Ga., Dec. 12.—Georgia
downed Texas today In an effort to se
cure the possession of J. p. Roach, a
white man. who is wanted in Franklin
county, Georgia, to answer a charge of
forgery, and in Cash county, Texas, to
face a charge of horse stealing. Roach
was arrested In Ashbum, Worth coun
ty, a few days ago upon Information
that he was wanted in Cass county,
Texas, to answer the charge of horse
stealing. While the he was being held
there Sheriff Clofelder of Franklin
county appeured upon the scene in
Ashbum with a warrant for Roach, In
which it was stated that Roach was
desired in that county to meet a charge
of forgery preferred against him. The
authorities of Ashbum who had Roach
under arrest declined to give him up,
stating that a requisition from the
governor of Texas had been honored
by Governor Terrell of this state.
Sheriff Clodfeldor at once fired a tele
gram to Georgia’s governor at once
inquiring about the matter, and In re
turn was informed that no requisition
had been made for Roach.
When this information reached Ash-
burn the authorities having Roach un
der arrest delivered him to Sheriff
Clodfelder. who reached Atlanta this
morning with his prisoner. Upon ar
riving in this city he left the man at
the Jail and visited the executive of
fice, where he was again informed that
no requisition had been made for
Roach. A half hour later the requIsK
tlon from the governor of Texas
reached the governor of Georgia.
In the meantime Sheriff Clodfelder
and his prisoner had left the city and
were rapidly cutting down the distance
between Atlanta and Franklin county.
Governor Terrell has written a let
ter to the governor of Texas Inform
ing him that Roach Is wanted In this
state to answer the charge of forgery
nnd that Texas can't have him until
Georgia has finished with him. If
Roach Is acquitted l*e will be held a
reasonable time, subject to the order
of the authorities of the Lone Star
State, and If convicted Texas can make
a claim for him after he has served
his time In the Georgia penitentiary.

of Fallopian and Ovarian Inflammation—
and escaped an awful operation by using
Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound.
“Dear Mns. Pinkham:—I sufforert for four yours with what the
doctors called SalpiiiKitis (inflammation of tho fallopian tubes) and ova

surrounding parts undermining tho constitution, and sapping tho life

which restored mo to new life nnd health in llvo months, nnd saved ino

Ovaritis or Inflammation of tho ovaries or fallopinn tubes which adjoin tha

with the ovaries, Indicated by dull throbbing pain in tho side, accompanied
by heat nnd shooting pains, should claim your instant attention. It will not
euro itself, and a hospital operation, with all ita terrors, may easily result from
neglect.
“Dear Mns. Pinkiiam: — loan truly say that you Jtnvo saved
my life, nnd I cannot express my griititudo to you In words.
“ Before I wrote to you telling how I felt, I bad doctored for over

I suffered much pain. I would daily liavo
