ATLANTA. Dec. 13 Will’any of the
Georgia troops take part in the tn-
augurattonal exercises of President
Theodore Roosevelt?
This question will have to be an
swered by the troops in persons, as
Governor Terrell says that the state
has no funds that are available for
such purposes.
Today the governor received a let
ter from George H. Harris, chairman of
the military feature of the inauguera-
tlon, inviting Georgle to send some of
her troops to take part In the proces
sion. Governor .Terrell referred the
letter to Adjutant General Sampson
\V. Harris, who will. In turn, refer the
same to the colonels of the several reg
iments of Georgia State Troops. If
any of them go they will have to do so
at their own expense.
The letter to Governor Terrell reads
as follows:
Inauguer.il Committee, Washington,
Dec. 10. 1904.—To the Governor of the
State of Georgia. Atlanta, Ga.—Sir: I
have the honor to request such Infor
mation as can be offered me relative to
the possible or probable participation
of troops of your state in the parade
which will follow the tnaugueratlon of
President' Roosevelt. March 4th. 1905.
This Information Is asked in order
that the grand marshal of this com
mittee may have substantial founda
tion for their working plains. The
committee Is especially •desirous of
welcoming troops from every state and
territory In the union and is ready to
do anything in its power towards se
curing suitable quarters nt minimum
cost: placing It* services entirely at its
disposal.
In this connection I would to sug
gest that the representation be not
over-large. All Indications point to the
coming of a great many organisations,
so many that In passing upon the
questlpn to admission to the column
for review* the committee will undoubt
edly be embfaased if any state sends
more than a brigade. This suggestion
must not (and I am sure will not) he
regarded as the establishment of one*:
abltrary maximum; It Is offered in
general Interest and Is the outcome of
experience. Hoping to receive n fa
vorable response nt your earliest con
venlence. I am, Very Repectfully
yours.

easily reach 60 per cent.
This increase will muke n record for
Cordele, and is largely due to the In

Cordele Rifles Favor State Armories.
The officers and men of the Cordele
Rifles nre very much Interested In the
recommendation soon to be made by
Adjt.-Gen. Harris, In his annual re
port, that the state build nndjown Its
own armories Instead of renting. Tho
Cordele Rifles is a new company, and

factory building for use as an armory.
It Is stated that Adjt.-Gen. Harris’
plnn has met with favor among tho
military authorities of the state.
Georgia now pays about $13,000 a year
armory rent. Gen. Harris thinks that
If this should be applied to the pur
chase of suitable buildings, within ten
years every committal In tho stato
•ould own Its own armory.
