The report of Chief Sanitary In
jector John C. Delts of Macon for
the past year contains many Inter
ring facts. In making this report
he announced to members of city
council thnt he had been handicapped
by the limited force at his control.
Itut despite this fact the service done
the city in this department has been
excellent, us will be seen from the ro-
port of work done.
During the past year the sanitary
department hns been working under a
decreased appropriation. The carts
have been reduced from 16 to 9 nnd
the labor has alao been considerably
decreased.
Inspector Delts has made a lengthy
report which contains full Informa
tion of work done during the year.
This la ns follows:
To the Mayor nnd Council, City:
Gentlemen: — I beg to submit this,
my first annual report aa Chief Sani
tary Inspector, quoting the words of
my Chairman, Dr. Barron, on assum
ing charge of this department. “Do the
best you can with what you have to
do It with."
I now take this npporunlty also with
satisfaction to myself In saying I have,
which the following report will show:
Thirteen head of stock were turned
over to me, the same in number 1 have
at present.
Beginning with 10 carts and one
double wagon we have for removing
smallpox pattenta at all hours of the
day. leaving the Chief Sanitary In
spector to remove them at nil hours
of the night, which he did.
The. epidemic censed June 17. re
quiring me to utilize the extra mule,
which I did by borrowing nnd repair
ing an old cart from the Chairman of
the street committee, thereby giving
me 11 carts and the same double

Also 52 weekly pay rolls for scav
enger force, together with 2* weekly
pay rolla of smallpox accounts, which
were properly approved by the chair
man of the Board of Health, the May
or und Finance Committee.
In conclusion, 1 wish to take the
liberty aa chief sanitary Inspector, in
recommending a more liberal view
and Idea of this important department,
as I believe the most. or. ftt least, one
of the moat, connected with the city
government. If I had done otherwise
than to. the best of my ability. Includ
ing actually working every day In the
year. I would refrain from making the
assertion that there has been more
systematic work accomplished In the
Ust 12 months than ever before.
With thanks to Capt. Massenberg
for his many courtesies offered me In
helping me out. and the same to Al
derman Maasee for having transferred
