Decomposed Body of Negro is Found
Near Dawson—Verdict of
Coroner's Jury.
DAWSON, Gn., Dec. 28.—The body of
owls Scott, a negro, was found burled
in a pond basin eight miles north of
Dawson today. On Monday the hat of
Scott was found in the woods near the
scene of the burial, with gun shot holes
In It. which led to the arrest of Hop
Baldwin, a negro, who was last seen
with him two weeks before, nnd Sher

of the body and in the absence of Cor

the scene to hold an Inquest. The body
was burled In a two foot grave, face
downwards and was In a badly decom

the head, And the load had penetrated

the fuce.
The evidence before the Jury showed
thut Scott had sworn out a warrant
against Baldwin for stealing from him
nnd had testified against him before
the city council on Friday. December
Baldwin \vlth u gun on his shoul

him that a neighboring furmer wanted
him to help care for some wood near

was the last time he was seen alive.
The finding of Scott's hat Monday
strengthened the suspicion of foul play
and a search for his body was com
menced. After killing Scott Baldwin
wrote a letter to Scott's uncle and
to himself, signing Scott's name, say
ing that he was In the woods and would
return home soon.
The coroner’s Jury chnrged Baldwin
