Mrs. Mary Murfee, a lady living on Elm street, has Just received lntelll- of a large fortune which she has inherited In Whitfield county, Mrs. Murfee, originally Mary Rob ertson, was adopted at the age of eight by an old couple named Wrlmble, who ere childless. This was in 1876, Af ter her marriage she removed from Wrltfleld county to Macon, and for many years has received no news from her old home. In February of 1904, her adopted mother, survivor of tho- old couple, died in Texas, having re-marrled. Her second husband ar rived In Whitfield to claim her prop erty, consisting of some of the richest lands of the county, and this caused a search for the adopted child. Mrs. Murfee's good fortune will bring her about $40,000. COLEMAN Yesterday was one of the most pleasant of the holidays of the present season for the boys and girls at the Georgia Indtistrlnl home on account of the excellent dinner prepared for them by the ladles auxiliary of that Insti tution. A number of prominent guests had been Invited and were present to gether with President Willingham, Manager Gunn and members of Jho la dles auxiliary committee. Among those present were: Dr. J. O. llarrlson. pastor of Tattnall Square Rapt 1st church; Rev. W. !!. Frasier, pastor of Tattnall Square Presbyterian church; Mr. and Mrs. Flew Holt. Miss Kate Mumford. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Kllle, Rev. and Mrs. Rohler Walker and Rabbi and Mrs. Witt. The ladles of the auxiliary had made the occasion a special one for the boys and girls as well 'as the visitors and the repast was probable the most ex cellent and abundant ever furnished a the home. Kverythlng was specially prepared for the children and they greatly enjoyed the day. After the dinner the children under training In the home gave an exhibit Ion full of entertainment for the visit ors. For this occasion the visitors and members of the home were gathered In the chapel. During the afternoon there was most excellent music furn lahed by Prof. Gooding and the boys* band. Manager Gunn *wi.. present and manifested strong enthusiasm In the beginning of the work and was fully nwake to the responsibilities noon tp devolve upon him. He left shortly af ter the noon hour yesterday for At lanta where he goes to bring his fam lly to Macon. He will return tomor row and will on Monday take active charge. Mr. Gunn will be Immediately en gaged with the law which was-passed lust summer providing for an appro priatlon of the sum of $60 annually to the home from the counties of the state for each child taken In. A sum of $5,000 or $6,000 can be gathered every year for the support of the hltdren In this manner. The fund will be badly needed and full advantage of the action of the legislature will ho taken as soon as the manager can be engaged with the business of the home. The boys band will be out on an other trip by the middle of Janliary and It Is now expected that* they will be In the state of Florida for ten days or two weeks. It Is stated that the musical concerts now given by the boys will ensure them an audience wherever they go and In Florida they will expect as profitable trips as, In this state. President K. J. Willingham will have an Important financial report to make at the meeting of the trustees this afternoon when arrangements will be made to turn over accounts to Man ager Gunn. THE STOLEN HORSE. The tourists of the East are now speeding through Macon on their way South. The majority go on to the va rious Florida resorts but quite a num ber stop before reaching that state and pass the winter on Georgia soli. The tourists from the West pass through Macon on their way down, touohlng at Chattanooga and Atlanta. The railroad officials of Macon re port that Jhelr lines arc handling large numbers of the tourists and the rush Is yet to come. Special cars are being operated from the larger Western cit ies all the way through. A few pri vate cars have already passed south ward.
