of tho bin before news of It waa pub
lished. and ha seemed to know why
It was filed. He did not seem to at-
tarh much Importanca to It. except
that he thought that soma people might
think that It affected the other enter
prises of himself and associates. For
instance, there Is the Central Oeorgla
Power Company and the electric line
to Albany, neither of them being con
nected in any way and both In good
shnpe. Mr. Moore gave OUt the fol
lowing statement:

After rending what Mr. Moors had
to sty on the suhjerf. Mr. M. Fel
ton Hatcher, on© of the stockholders
and sii attorney for tha line, gava out
the following:
“Mr. Moore seems to have alsed
up the situation correctly and I Ilka
wise am satisfied with the statua of
affairs. Mr. Harrington has financed
other enterprises of this kind and Is
an experienced man In this lint of bus
iness He la one of savsral financiers
who are able to carry out any and all
contracts. I am sure hts answer to
the personal attack mads upon him

Macon Traveling Man Registers Just
a Mild Kick.
"Surely Twiggs county should get a
full quota of the convict* for working
the roads,"-Mill a traveling man yes
terday.
"There are some roads In which you
will hava to drive three mile*. If trav
eling In a buggy, to turn around In,"

meet another vehicle, one or the other
must run up the hank. There are hills
up Which It U almost Impossible for

lodging place. They are few and far

A Thing In His Llf*
The only case before the recorder
yesterday morning was that of an old
negro named Ben Banders, charged
with disorderly conduct by reason of
his calling a white woman a liar.
This lady testified that she was
looking after ths lumber yard of Mr.
Chambers, In VlnevtUe, her husband
being the nlg^t watchman for Kln-
nett's woodyard and bting away from
horns all night She said that she saw
Ben gather up a wheelbarrow full of
shingle*, and when shs told him that
they belonged to Mr. Chambers and
that he must throw them back he said
he would do so but never did. Later
when she saw Mm he said that he had
put hack the shingles. She told him
that he had not. and then It was the
said he called her a liar and the had
him arrested.
Ben denied calling the lady a liar,
hut said he and she had a talk about
the xhlnglsa. He said he was €7 years
old and had never said such a thing
to a lady In all hl« life. He was fined
tlO and the fine suspended.

DAILY AT WESLEYAN
New pupils are arriving dally at
Wesleyan and while the enrolment this
year shows a slight decrease In com
parison with last year's figure*. Pres
ident Guerry has every reason to think
that In a very short while the pupils
matriculated this year will equal in
number the record of any previous
year.
All of the teachers are living In the
college building this year. Last year
It was necessary to move eight of the
faculty from the college to boarding
places out In town; this year, however,
the building Is not so crowded, and all
of tho teachers have rooms and take
their meals within the college walls,
making it much more convenient for
themselves, as well as for tho pupils
under their guidance.
WM, CUMMINGS OF MACON
Chief Westcott has received a letter
from the police authorities of Elbert,
W. Va., saying that on September 19
a negro, who gave his name aa Wil
liam Cummings, was shot by a prl
vate detective at that place. The ne
gro was anxious to let his people In
Macon know of tils condition, and
hence the letter.
Cummings Is said to have been tn
the clothes-presslng business In El
bert, but no particulars of the shoot
ing are given. He is described as be
ing 27 years old and weighs 181
pounds.
