In tho afternoon there were two or three calls for the sheriff, one at the Jail nnd another at the station house. When ho went to tho latter place to carry the negro to the depot, he had a long distance message from Grays saying that a inob was being formed with the intention of meeting him at the train and taking the negro away from him. Now there In no braver man living than Sheriff Boh Etheridge, and tho negro would not have been taken from him without a struggle, but he aaw no reason why he should carrv tho man to the mob an.1 thus force trouble.
