Tuesday J. H. Benton, who eaiJ
ho wee rennocted with th* race horse*,
testified that he left hie vest and coui
bunging up in one of tho stables at
the park for a fear minutes, and when
he returned hie watch had been taken
trum the vest.
That same day Callehatl was around
one of the attractions «t the park that
had not yet pitched Its tent. He kept
unking when the show would be put
up. and at the same timo kept pulling
out hie watch ea If timing the show
people. He milled the watch out so
many times that * young man with
tho show, and who knew him. be-
* nine Irritated and told him that ha
needn't be pulling his watch Out so
often on them.
A little later In the day. Denton re
marked to hjs friend, the young man
of the show, that hi* watch had b»*en
stolen end he would pay a reward f*»r
Its rerovery. Asked what kind of a
watch It wae he Raid that the pecu

loos# and would not always stay shut.
The young man had noticed this sanio
peculiarity about the which Callanan
was pulling out. and then cams the
search for Callahan. Tha matter was
reported to Officer Glenn, and yester
day Callahan wee found at the rauoi
and arrested.
Callahan said that he found ths
watch in ths vest, not knowing whose
vest It was. and concluded to keep It
until an owner could be found, and
that he made no attempt to conceal
the watch, pulling It out on many oc
casions in all crowd*.
The recorder did not think the evi
dence sufficient to warrant commit
ment and he wae discharged from
custody.
