A COUNTY DISPLAY.
As Viewsd by Hon. Martin V. Calvin,
Secretary of ths Georgia State Ag
ricultural 8ociety.
Time and conditions considered,
there la not on the fair grounds s
more attractive or surprising display
of agricultural products than that
known an the nibH county, exhibit.
In point of excellence and variety,
the exhibit does old Bibb more thin
proud. The possibilities of the coun
ty, along agricultural lines, have boon
for generations freely 'concede!, but
that waa In a general and perfunctory
way only—a word of mouth, so to
speak; nothing more.
The fact Is, when President Jon**,
Irrepressible, ubiquitous and re
sourceful as he IsTVaw the exhibit in
place, he exclaimed: "Well, sir! Who
would have believed It!"
And that Is exactly what every
other Bibb county man and womnn
has as Id or looked or acte<L It Is th**
old story of a prophet not without
honor save in hia own country.
In the number of varieties of com.
hny, sweet potatoes, held peks, vege
tables. fruits, etc., tho Bibb coj*ity
exhibit measures ground with coun
ties of larger experience at #t*t«
fairs snd therefore pride thjinselvta
as standing In the forefront.
Raising pumpkins wn s supposed to
he a lost art In Georgia. The display
in hand clearly nnd aweeplnglv dem
onstrate* that the art. If ever lost,
ha* been recovered, and Is lu full
practice In old Bihb.
nibb has long been regarded as a
"city county"—her chief product as
tute •politician*. A visit to. and a
careful Inspection of, the Bibb county
exhibit will convince tho inoat obdu
rate among the skeptics that tho
good old county Is as prolific of fine
corn, and prime liny, etc., as of men
hlxhly capable and useful In public
life.
