PLAINTIFF LOST,
The Attention of the superior court
k uas occupied all of yesterday with
the hearing of the suit of Miss Lizzie
Bonner against a bottling company.
The plaintiff claimed that sho was
made violently III by drl.nklng of the
contents of u bottle, put up by the
defendant company, which contained
a dead mouse. She asked for dam
ages In the sum of >2,500.
The case was hard-fought by both
aides and to the very last disinterest
ed lawyers were puxzled as to what
would be the outcome. The Jury was
out over five hour*, returning a
diet In favor of the defendant.
The defenae contended that it was
impossible for a dead mouae—or a live
one. for that matter—to have, been
bottled at Ita establishment, owing to
the various processes required In the
filling of a bottle with the drink.

Memphis, which paper claims that the

NEW YORK. Nov. 12.—The police raid
ed an alleged ‘luxuriously furnished
opium den" on West Forty-sixth street,
near Broadway, early yesterday. In the
four-story brown-stone house they ar
rested Mrs. Nellie Clifton, four other
women and three men and took them to
•he West 8lde police court.
The detectives told Magistrate Moss

COLUMBUS. Os., Nov. 12—Judge 8.
P. Gilbert today sentenced All the
prisoners who have so tar been con-
vlcted at this term of Muscogeo su
perior Court, fifteen In number.
If. was the first time that the new
Judge had passed sentence In his home
county and the occasion was of much
Interest to the lawyers. The Judge
purposely sentenced all the defendants
nt the same time so ag to make a
deeper Impression on their mind.
His lecture to the prison*r*. on the
Importance of obeying the law was
Impressive in the extreme.
Judge Gilbert's first sentence was
upon a negro who had been selling
whisky In one of the suburbs, who
wsus fined I4M or a year on the chain-
gang. A 2250 fine was Imposed In an
other case of aimllar character and
(women who were convicted of playing
and betting waro fined $300 each.
