throughout the cast and celebrated

llslo Indian Bund. Mr. James Riley
Wheelock was practically unknown In
the west when Wheelock'* United
States Indian Hand waa first organized,
at Lawrence, Kan. In 1*02.
Now. however, tho name Wheelock
has become a common word where
good music Is known and appreci
ated, as much a* the name was a
household • word In foot ball circles
when thu gluht Wheelock was the
great guard on tile Carlisle Indian foot
ball team.
Tho band'* early *uocc**ca were
made In Philadelphia and during It*
visit 4o Pueblo and Denver. Colo
rado, In 1902, and at the St. Louis
Exposition. In 1003. Since that time
Mr. Wheelock ha* hod a well-selected
band of Indian artists, coining from
all over th 0 United Statos and Mexi
co, representing twenty different tribe*,
and ha* been giving concert* In the
middle west, coming as far east as
New York city, inhere he played for
Ing attested by teeming column* of
pralHo and commendation from the
leading musical critic* everywhere.

will not allow the use of bis name for
many reasons, the principal one being

Yesterday morning Meesrs. Johnson,
of Johnson Bros*, furniture house on
Poplar street. Wfre in the front part
of the store. and heard a rolae in the
rear that sounded as if some one waa
trying to break open a drawer. One
of the brothers remarked that It wa*
probably the’ wind, but tho other
brother decided to Investigate.
On going to the rear he saw a negro
Jump out of the rear door Into the
alley and run off. Wondering why he

It Is expected that action will be
taken with reference to the recent
trouble at the Brunswick docks In the
matter of discharging the cargo of
the Emmett Small and the cutting of
that boat adrift and leaving it at the
mercy of the wind and waves. But for
a little ntestn left In the boilers there

of the boat.
This Is what will be reported to the
chamber of commerce, and It remain*
to be seen what action will be taken.
Secretary Z. K. Jay will make hi*
annual report of tho transactions of
the chamber since the las't meeting.
He will show that at the reorganiza
tion meeting on December 21. last year
thero were 28 charter members pres
ent. There are now 116 active mem
ber*. and have raised over 13,000 dur
ing ttw past for the running expenses
President Small urges every mem
ber to be present this afternoon. The
chamber of commerce Is In fine condi
tion. and now that the presidential
election is over, and business, so long
disturbed, now settling down to a firm
basis, .there la a world of upbuilding
work ahead.
