Tfa* recent death of Judge A. G. W.
Hendrick*, who for the part sixteen or
seventeen years has held ths position
of Justice of the peeee for the Godfrey
district, will bring about a contest in
that district for the office. Had
Judge Hendricks lived, while he would
not have sought the office no ont
would have opposed him. As It
there ere now two candidates In the
held with the prospects of more. Mr.
E. N. Hunter has unnounced. and It
Is said that Mr. John Josey will be
a candidate.
There are three candidates In ths
Warrior district, so It Is -Mid.
In ths lower district Judge A. P.
Jones Is to be opposed by Mr. Rich-
ard F. McCowan.
In East Macon Mr. Hugh McKervey
will not have any opposition. There
was some talk of Capt. Hush Luma-
den entering the race, but his friends,
after feeling around, saw that nobody
would talk anything but McKervey
and Irish Justice, and they withdrew
his name.
There are nine Justices of the peace
to be elected on December 6th, one for
each of the nine militia districts In
_ the county. Ordinary Wiley has all
-fThe arrangements made for this elec
tion. which now promises to be an In
teresting one. There Is some talk of
offerlnrlndueements to the voter, but
this may be all talk. For Instance,
one candidate Is said to have offered
to marry all couples for twenty-five
per cent less than any other, and that
some of them will not allow a garnish,
ment In his court. These may be
mere rumors, snd nothing but the plain
thank you will be heiu out as an In
ducemcnt for votes.

BABIES ON PARADE
YESTERDAY AFTERNOON
NUMBER OF LITTLE FELLOWS
WERE ROLLED ABOUT ON THE
BROAD 8IDEWALK8.
Whether It portends the near ap
proach of Christmas and the conse
quent arrival of Santa Claus, or wheth
er Jt Just 'bo happened. It makes no
difference, but a pretty sight waa pre
sented to the people down town yes
terday afternoon.
Not since the summer nights when
a prize was offered for the beat look
ing baby during one of the concert
nights, has there been seen ao many
babies on parade as was seen about 4
o'clock.
There were baby carriages In groups
and singly, each with a pretty baby,
being rolled about over the broad side
walks by nurses. Why the parade la
not known, but it la quite [certain that
it was no special occasion because
the babies were not dressed up more
than usual. They were In their every
day clothes, but they were Just
sweet and as cute as If arrayed
all their frills and furbelows.
