THE MACON DAILY TELEGRAPH! TUESDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 1, 1908 Here's To The man who thinks twice—the man who appreciates the combination of quality and sensible prices—the man who wants his dollar to bring him a dollar’s worth of whatever he buys, and besides that carry a lot of pleas- . ure and satisfaction—is the man you’ll find most among our customers. This means something. Just this—We are selling the kind of clothes men like to wear. The kind they buy again. We have the best of new things. You will find it very much worth your while to look them over; fancy suits in all the new colorings, in many models; blue and black unfinished Worsteds and Thibets. See Our Window Display v. NO BAD EGGS No bad eggs to ruin your Christmas cakes this year, that'is, if you buy them from us. We are handling and recommending only the fresh country eggs. We have just received fresh shipment and have arranged to keep well supplied throughout the holidays. Don’t forget when baking your cakes that wo have all the ingredients at the most reasonable prices. Macon Cash Grocery Phones 325—290 670 Poplar St. FRESH SHIPMENT COUNTRY BUTTER—25c and 30o 1859 1908 A Concern Which Has Climbed To the Highest Notch in the Business World by Strict Integrity and Fair Dealing. THE GREAT ATLANTIC & PACIFIC TEA CO. Importers, Coffee Roasters, Distributors, 327 Stores in U. S. REPUTATION - Is worth more to us than the profits wo might make on a few pounds of cheap, trashy Teas, or low grade, rank Coffee, which might be sold by questionable methods to the unwary. DON’T BE HUMBUGGED By the fly-by-night concerns who try to imitate some of the “Windy City Stylo” catalogue houses who sell their goods mostly to the un thinking poor people. WE WOULD NOT BRAND A. TRUTHFUL MAN A LIAR No, never, because it would not be just and would be a great sin to do so, and all good peo ple would lose respect for the person who bears false witness. THE PURE FOOD LAW SAYS YOU MUST NOT BRAND A PACKAGE WITH A LIE Wo hnve great respect for the pure food law, beeause it is in keeping with the Higher Law, given to us relative to bearing false witness. Iff is a good law and needs to bo enforced more rigidly. WE WOULD NOT SELL YOU Finest Java & Mocha Coffee, three pounds for one dollar and give twenty-five cents worth sugar free with it. Wo do not know of nny other store doing this, although we have seen in a few cities whore some stores had signs outside mak ing this offer, and filling the orders with Coffee not as good as what we sell at 20c a ponnd, and getting the eqnivolont of forty cents for twenty- * five cents worth of sugar. Do not confuse A&P Stores with mushroom concerns who have nothing to lose. No other store is in a position to give as fresh goods or as great values as A&P Stores. When you put your money in bank yon like to put it where it is safe; when you mako a purchase, trado at a store where you are safe. Help yourself by trading at A&P Stores. You will find them always delighted to serve you. HEARD THE BURGLAR AND LAID FOR HIM SHERIFF R0BERT60N GETS HUR RY CALL TO 8END DEPUTIES TO PELLEW'8 DRUG 8TORE. For Sale at $2,500 A two-story, seven-room house, thoroughly modem, newly papered; within half block of College St. Splen did homo or investment. - ’ Willingham Loan & Trust Co. of his store, but he could not tell ex actly where the noise came from, whether from the rear wall or the floor. Ho went to the rear and the noise ceasedN He then concluded that U might have been a burglar trying to get In. or It may not have been. If a burglar, his going to the rear hid frightened him off, and then the In cident was forgotten. Sunday night, when about closing time, he heard that same sawing. He stood still and listened, and then r«- calllng the noine of the Friday night before, he waa now certain that there wit & burglar who had returned to complete the work of sawing his way Into the store. As quietly an possi ble ho whispered In tho phone to Sheriff Robertnon to send a deputy or bo to the store and that he would tell them about It when they came. Promptly two deputies walked caa- ually Into the store and bought cigars, and were told In a low tone of the sawing and tho visit of the burglar. Then they decided that they would all pretend os If they had gone out and locked the door, though they remained and took positions In tho store to re main absolutely quiet and wait for developments. Silence prevailed. Only the drip of the gathering drops of tho sarsaparilla syrup from a leaky > valve In the sodu fountain could be heard. They lis tened and Anally the sawing began. They were all now satisfied that the burglar was In the cellar, and sawing his way through the floor. At first they thought they would wait until the burglar got through the floor and then they would pounce upon him. but the burglar was so long about it that Deputy Joe Wilson grew Impa tient. Gathering his light he bounded down Into the cellar, but there was no one to be seen. The others went down and they found no one. Then they Jjpgan to Investigate and they found For several nights evidently a big rats. It must have been a big one, had been trying to gnaw through the floor from one cf the cross beam*. That was all there was to it. Then the parly went upstairs and drowned their disappointment In the best In the soda fountain and the cigar case, with atrlet Injunctions not to breathe a word of the night's work. A First street resldenter made com plaint that his cook had taken a lot of things at various times from his pantry, and while he had been a suf ferer along these lines for a long time, the practice had now grown to such an extent that he could not stand it any longer. Ho put up with her taking things enough to feed a family every night when she went home, nnd he allowed It to bo done, knowing how scarce cooks were, and fearing that If he discharged her he might get one worse than she was. But the other night when she took off a lot of country tausage that he had paid twenty cents a pound for and was eating only about three links at a meal so as to enjoy it as long os possible, he called a halt and told her she must return tho sausage. She strenuously denied that she had nny, but a search of her basket revealed other night when she took off a .ot other things he did not know she had. All this was done by his wife, but ns he did not wish her to come Into court, he told It as though he had been there and caught her himself. This was the case of Henrietta Har ris, charged with larceny. After all had been said, how Henrietta had taken tho things, and how a police man was called, and all about It, the court asked Henrietta what statement she 1 wanted to make. ••Jedge, wot yer recktn dlshyer w'lte mans wantcr tell yer all dls mess fur?
