BLACKS, TANS, GRAYS AND OLIVES, SIB TO $35 ' WE LAUGH , It tickles us to see what means some merchants will resort to, to get trade. Some are continually advertising big “Blow Specials” (very little if any lower than Q\ir regular price) while some persist in handing out “Hot Air” and-will even sacrifice quality to get price, but the people are catching on to this “monkey business” and all the time we are getting new customers and studying the best way to serve one and all alike. Most of our customers prefer to have a regular place to trade, a place where they can depend on getting the right goods at the right price, and at the right time. This is our aim and we seldom miss. CONVICTS FOR >;CITY STREETS Plan for tho County and City to Dlvlds the State Convicts to Work Roads of ths Country and tho Strssts of tho City. proposition Whether or not tha city authorities will agree on tha ...... of tha oountv taking 106 of tha stata eon vtcta and dividing them Into taro gangs, one to work In tha city and the other to worfcla the oouaty. isislni to bo aaan. Tho plan waa outlined In The Telegraph several days ago. and uras thoroughly discussed at tha last maattng of tha coun ty commissioners, and tha n— ' confers nee left with tha rei matter of tha confer*noe loft with tho repraoentatlves of tha city to Attorney Walter O. Smith ready l£lfl K. A. Wlmbleh. who have al- hot—* ready had on* conference with tha bora of the street committee of tha ell on tha subject. It Is proposed that Bibb county take the 100 convicts and thaao the county can obtain without paying anything for them. The county will place 10 of those with tha city to work all tha time on tha streets of ths city proper, the city to pay for their keep and maintenance. The other 10 to work only on the county roads. The advantage to the city la claimed to be this: In tha first place there is a guaranteed force of It convicts at work nil the time on the streets of the city. In addition to such short term convicts as may be sent to the gang from the re corder's court. In the second place there Is tha econ omy. Tha county offers to pay to tha city $2,000 a year toward tne mainte nance of this force. The cost to the city to have and absolutely control this gang of »0 men Is about 62.2.V) plus ren tal of quarters, this being st the 64.6* per oaplts. the amount mid by the Bibb flrlck Company. The Bibb In the third place, should the city want to set these convicts from the state. It would have to pay 1100 each for them, but by getting them through the county they coal nothing. The advantage of this plan to the coun ty. It Is claimed. Is that the county could then depend on a guaranteed force to work on the country road* all tha time without having work Interrupted for tho gang to be brought Into the city to work on the streets. And, and all the streets being now under the control of tha county so far ns keeping them up Is concerned, they would t»e looked after without In terference of outside work. At the last meeting of the commission ers It was agreed to take M more con victs. making 100 In all. The division of the fore* or the continuance of the old plan of working In the city when Ihev can be spared from tha country roads. Police (®ount Ha Jined the Union.
