Much more than a quarter of a million dollara has been spent on the present shops, and a walk over them la a revelation to any one who will spare the time. They are complete in every detail, and yet they are to bo extended to more than double their present capacity and ground, to nothing of the increased force of men. To do this the company will tear down all the present buildings on the old site, and construct entirely new shop"’ buildings that will cover all the present area of ground on which the old shops stand. Only Pine street will then divide these two Immense shops. More Room Required. The new shops are provided with every convenience for the employe, showing the consideration of the com pany for the men who work for It In these shops. There are lockers and lavatories In abundance, so arranged that when the employe quits work ha passes through a building where all these conveniences are arranged, and ho emerges Into the street as If ho hnd stepped out of a bandbox.
