CHARLESTON TEAM

EW8 DRAWING MANAGER'S

Special to The Telegraph.
CHARLESTON. S. d. Dee. 6.-Basel
ball matters hers ore at a standstill, no
word having been lately received from
President Wilson Matthews, who Is lo
cated In New Orleans for th# winter.
The Charleston officials are worried
about the rumorod opposition that will
bo made to Wilson Matthews' connec
tion with the Chancston club. While
Matthews Is in name the president of
the club, he Is In reality its manager,
instead of Pat Meany, who will bear
that title. Of course. Matthews will re
ceive a manager's salary, else he would
not come here, and In so paying him
many think that the Charleston club
will bo evading the salary limit of the
league. It 1* understood that the Au
gusta club is to suggest a resolution
prohibiting the payment of salaries to
officers of the club, or. that if a salary
is paid. It must be under 975 per month.,
If this rule I* adopted by the league. It
will effectually kill Wilson Matthews*
chances of leading the Charleston club,
since he would not serve ever, as presir
dent unless he got a becoming salary. 1
The Charleston club la in favor of
Boyer for re-election. ■
