This morning at the homo of her
father. Hon. John T. Plttnrd, in Win*
tervllle, Mrs. Clara Tucker pissed
away after a brief illness. Mrs. Tuck-

the grate, in her homo. For a while It
was hoped that she might recover, but
she grew worse during the past few
days and died this morning. She ts

Council Declares a Holiday.
The mayor snj council of Athena
at a meet ini, Inst night passed a res
olution declaring Riturd.iv. December
26. a legal holiday In this city and

to Ills, etc., to close on that day as well

will be generally approved and that the
greater number of people in Athena

LE MANS, Frante Dec. 18.—Wil
bur Wright, the American aeroiilan-
lat, eatabllabed a new world's record
for heavler-than-air machines to
day while trying for the Mlchclin
cap, remaining In the air one honr,
S3 minutes and B9 seconds. The
beat previous record la one hour, 31
mlnulea and SI seconds, which Mr.
Wright made October 10.
Tho aeronaut obtained nn aver
age height of 24 feet today and
the distance was officially measured
at, til 1-2 miles, which does not In
clude the wido sweeps and turns
made during the flight. He ‘de
scended only because the oil feed
er got out of order.

Mr. Wright closed a triumphant
day by achieving another record,
flying to a height of 360 feet In a
strong wind and wl.tnmg the Sarthe
Aero Club’s prlio for height. At
first it was thought that the vio
lence of tho breexe would compel
Mr. Wright to postpone his effort,
but. undaunted, he launched bis,
machine and circled around and
around the.field. When soaring at
90 feet a sudden gust of wind
caught the aeroplane sidewise,
causing It to plunge violently back
wards. The spectators were terri
fied, but Mr. Wright remained 'un
perturbed and soon righted his
craft.
Aviator Is Danqnrtted.
At the end of ten minutes tho
wind had moderated and tho aero
plane soared upward and passed high
over a line of captive balloons
marking a distance of three hun
dred feet. Then It descended and
after again circling the Hold, was
brought to earth, landing In front
of the shed in which It Is housed.
The Aero Club tonight gave a ban
quet to Mr. Wright In celebration OT
his victory of today.

Representative Bell, of Gqorgln, to
day asked for tho papers 4n the
case of It. I. Armour, a Maryland
man, wh'o Is In the federal prison
at Atlanta, Ga., and Is said to bo
critically III of consumption.
Armour was convicted at Wll-
minglon, Del., last May of violating
the oleomargarine laws and was
sentenced to tho Atlanta peniten
tiary.

Holidays With the Homefolks.

have already started on their two
weeks-' Christmas holiday, numbers of
the student body going home yeater•
day'afternoon and last night.
The young ladles at Wesleyan will
not leave the city until Monday, as
the college does not close until thla
afternoon, and traveling Is forbidden
by th# college authorities on Sunday.
For two works ‘there will be no ses
sions In both Morcer and WesKyan.

far aw*ay from the college to make the
trip, will remain In Macon, either
spending the holidays with friends in
town or staying at their respective
colleges with some of the teachers, who
live In the buildings.
At both depots every day numbers
of students from all over Georgia and

on their way home for the Christmas
holiday*, and from now* until the mid
dle of next week a smiling crowd of
girl* and boys will form a large per

crowd went through the alley back

lookout, found them and marched
the crowd, mule, wagon, boxes',
boys and all to the station house
and took their names. Then he
marched them back to the alley and

on the officer to peek through the
alley and catch them, but he atoned
for It In letting them go without
