Smith believes that lie has in custody the negro boys who went Into .the stores of M. Bloch, the Pure Pood Store, and others, and that he has sufficient evidence against them to put them out of the running for some time to come. Detective Smith has boon at work On the case since these stores were bur glarized. and something led him In the direction of one Columbus Persons, who lives in the vldn'ty of the Man chester Mills, In Vlnevillc, yesterday morning before the rising hour of the family, and yanked Columbus from his arm bed. Columbus protested against such In trusion at the unseemly hour, and raid that such an invasion Into his prlvato apartments was unwarranted and that he was going to see about It. Not withstanding these protests, ho was taken to the station bouse and locked up. Then the detectvo wont after another man, but failed to get him at the ‘time. Because of the failure to get the other boy. tho case was not ready to be tried at court yesterday morning. After cotirt, Columbus laid it all on the other boy. ami In duo course of time Walter Bingham was under lock and key. In tho meanwhile the detective was at work endeavoring to find where some of the goods taken from tho stores could be found. It so happened that the Pure Food Store had some cigars handled by no other houso in the city, and It was some of these cigars that were taken from the store on tho night of .the robbery. Some of these were found in a certain negro store, and it remains for the detective to show that they were obtained from the boys who went into the store on thnt night. The officers believe tbit there were others connected with the two hoys, und will have the crowd ready for trial this morning. . - FOR SALE Prettiest cottage on North Highlands.
