the morning.
There arc twenty children and twelve
aduKs at the home, and they will be
as well provided for as if they were in
their own homes. The lodges in va-‘
rlous parts of the state ar© sending
Mr. Harris contributions for tho holi
days, and these wlll^J)© used to tho

Mr. Harris is happy In anticipation
of the enjoyment by the children. Ho
says they are th© best children in the
world anyhow, and he wants to Reo
them enjoy themselves. In addition

big dinner, at which both the young

As an evidence of tho kind of boys
he has at the home. Mr. Harris told
of a llfteen-yoar-old boy who asked
permission to bring in a wagon load
of Christmas trees that he might sell
them. This was given $nd yesterday
morning he brought tho trees into the
city and sold them for nearly four
dollars. lie was asked why he did not
go back and bring in another load so
that he might sell them. He said that
It wouldn't be right, as Mr. W. B.
Sparks had so kindly given him per
mission to cut tho trees ho thought
that two loads would be asking too
much of Mr. Sparks.

HOW FINES ARE PAID
AT RECORDER’S COURT
OFTEN A BIG FINE IS PAID AT
ONCE AND PEOPLE WONDER
HOW IT IS DONE.
People wonder sometimes how ne
groes manage to pay the heavy fines
sometimes Imposed on them by tho re
corder for their fights and disorderly
conduct. A case tried by the recorder
yesterday furnished ono instance of
how it is dohe.'
Officer Ed Burke arrested a negro
named John Battle on tho chargo of
fighting, the report being made by a
woman named Carrie Bullard. Tho
case was this:
John had been boarding with a wo
man named Lula Brown for the past
four years, and had been such a star
Ing to his own statement ho went to
his boarding houso hungry Monday
night, and found that Lula, the land
lady, had gone out calling. Carrie, on
whom she called, said that Lula called
on her. but was suffering so with a
headache and appearing to bo very
sick, she sat down In a chair and
went to sleep. Thinking she was too
sick to bo sitting asleep In a chair,
Carrie mado her lie down on the bed.
About supper timo John came and ask
ed if Lula was there. She was. and
that she was sick in bed. John waited
for no invitation but rushed into tho
room and pul Ted Lula out of tho bed
and slapped her.
There was no conflict |n the testi
mony, but John said he was not mad
and was only hungry, and meant n.i
harm. Ho tried to smile it off with
the recorder as merely a playful prank.
The recorder, however, saw no fun In
It and fined John fifteen dollars.
As John was being led away by the
officer ho yelled to Lula to go pawn
his clothes quick and get him out.
And Lula will gather up his clothes
and raise the fifteen dollars.

W. Q. Riley, 671 Mulberry street,

after having used Doan’s Ointment
with good results, I allowed my name
to be published In the local papers as
one who could endorse this prepara
tion from experience. At this time I
think Just as highly of Doan’s Oint
ment and I am willing to again pub*
licly endorse It. I had a skin erup
tion on my faco and though I frl»d
any number of Ointments and salves,
I obtained no apparent results. I
finally learned of Doan's Ointment
and procured a gox from the Taylor-

being a complete cure.”
