Taft decided yesterday to vinlt the atate of Texaa at some convenient time, after hla Inaugura tion, preferably at the end of the ®pe- clal Hesalon of congress, which he la to rail to revise the tariff. While his Itinerary for the vlalt has not been arranged ho will make the city of Dal ian one of the principal points of the trip. Thirty cities and towns of the Lone Star nt ate united In a request for his presence ut any time he should choose omc. The Invitation expressed a keen desire on the part of the com mercial bodies of the places In ques tion to make the personal acquaint ance of Mr. Taft and promised him a cordial welcome and courteous treat ment. It also dwelt upon the advan tage which would result both to the state nnd to himself of such a visit. The acceptance of the Invitation Is In accordance with Judge Taft's well-de. fined plan to Impress upon the south the necessity of becoming practical In Its politics. lie is to bring his ad ministration Into close touch with the south, according to his declarations and hopes to bring the south to real ize the necessity of itself taking hand In national affairs. Declines Chattanooga Invitation. Judge Taft was compelled, much to Is expressed regret to decline to visit Chattanooga. Tenn., where It was hoped to have hb* presence at tho dedl atlon of a 3200,000 Young Men's Christian Association building. The Invitation was extended personal ly by a delegation which visited Mr. Taft front that city. In declining the president-elect said that to accept meant that he would have to give up the balance of tho time between now nnd his trip to Patinma In visiting southern cities, as he had pressing Invitations from nearly nil of them, and to accept one and reject another would cause dissatisfaction. He ex pressed his hearty accord with the Y. M. C. A. movement In the south and recalled the fact that he had assisted at such dedications all around tho world. To Visit Three Cities. But three southern cities beside? Augusta will see the president-elect during his present stay In the south land. Ho will visit Atlanta nt some time to be fixed by a delegation which will come hero next week. He will oinhnrk for Panama from Charleston, C., nnd has decided to land nt New Orleans on his return. Invitations which ho has been compelled to de cline are from Apalachicola and Jacksonville, Fla.; Athens. Columbus and Savannah, Gn.; Chattanooga, T**nn., nnd Charlotte, N. C. delegation of southern editors havo applied to bo received by Mr. Taft while hero and their request has been granted. The arrangements for the expedition haye not yet been com pleted. Mr. Taft said tonight that ho lmd rltten Frank H. Hitchcock, national republican chairman and future post master general to visit him here for week or more. Mr. Hitchcock’s presence Is expected within u few days. Senator Knox, who Is also expected has as yet not Indicated when he will bo here. As the result of a cas ual remark by Mr. Tnft at tho coun try club dinner last night that ho had not been nblo to find hero a saddle that was "big enough to stick a post age stamp on” Judge Taft was to day presented by Superior Court Judge Henry C. Robert Taft, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Tnft. left for Savannah to day, there to be tho guest of Mr. nnd Mrs. Qeorgo J. Baldwin, of whom Miss Helen Taft was a guest last sum mer.
