FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 17, 1880.
A peck of worms Lave been known to
pass from one child. Shriuer’s Indian
Vermifuge was the remedy used. Only
25 cents a bottle. aug 31
Gathered on the Eoad-
September 11,1880.
Editors Telegraph and Messenger: I
have been traveling around a good deal
lately, and, to my surprise, I fiud a very
large number of the best and most sub
stantial men advocating the claims of our
most worthy and excellent Governor; and
especially do I find this the case in your own
city and Atlanta. Now, Messrs. Editors,
I am exactlv like Brother Murray’s “ Ha
zard,” only'! am just the other way. I
know that lizzard well. When he crawl
ed ofT of the “ I-don’t-hardly-know ” leaf
onto the Colquitt leaf, he was stuck so
tightly to it tliat I did not believe his colo'r
would soon be changed—but oh, how frail
is human nature! Here came a rumor
from Atlanta that the convention would
not make any nomination; that the ma
jority would recommend Colquitt, and
t'le unyielding minority, rather than en
dorse the choice of a very large majority
of the people, would burst up tlie conven
tion and put out a candidate of their own,
and in all probability that candidate
would be Mr. Stephens. Ife there and
then held out the minority leaf, when our
friend mounted it, and my candid opinion
! «, he will never regret it but once, and
tbat is always.
I never have voted for Colquitt, but
made up my mind long ago that I would
support him this time, and forty minority
Independents could not change me.
Why, to tell you the truth, I would not
vote for Joe Brown, if he were in Nor
wood’s place, if he is the greatest man
Geoigia ever produced. Muuh less could
I consent to vote for the man who, to sub
serve his own private ends, disrupted the
Democratic party of Georgia. 1 started
this letter to say a few words relative to
Norwood’s charges against Governor Col
quitt and the back salary grab question.
As to the charges—suppose a lawyer were
to collar some innocent man in time of
couit, and lead him up before a jury of
his own countrymen, who knew him to be
an honest, upright Christian gentleman,
above reproach, and say to them, “Gentle
men of the jury, here is a man who is a
thief, a scoundrel, robber, murderer. I
have no evidence to that eilect, but I want
you to convict him of one or all of these
charges, that he may be sent to prison for
life, or hanged. He is in my way; unless
1 can ruin him, I cannot succeed in my
plans,” etc. What would the judge and
jury think of that mau? Would they not
come to the unanimous conclusion that he
either needed a guardian or a place in the
asylum. 9
Now, the salary grab. Suppose I have
a number of clerks hired on a stipulated
salary. They get together and say to
themselves, “Boys, old man 8am ought to
pay us more; our wages are not sufficient
to pay our letnouade bills, etc. Now I’ll
tell you what let’s do. We’ve been here
for some time; we’ve got the key to tlie
safe; lel’a go in and take out about $5,000
apiece, ana if the old man tomplaius
about it, we’ll say we did not intend to do
anything wrong—we knew when you em
ployed us we were to get only so much,
but our espenses! our expenses!”
Now, do you suppose for one moment tbat
I would be willing to risk one of these men
with the exclusive management of niv en
tire estate ? Why certainly not. If I
did, I would not be true to natural in
stincts.
And again: Suppose that I have a man
in my own power; is it honest or right to
run my hand into his pocket and take his
money from him, just because I’ve got
him bound, aud he can’t help himself?
Why certainly this would be,- at least,
dishonest. I leave the reader to reflect.
Reflect well before you vote. Very truly,
yours, Justice.
A New Rapid Transit—The last
“ rapid transit ” scheme in New York is
an underground railway beneath Broad
way, from the Battery to Central Dark.
The company is already chartered, with
Gen. McClellan at the head and a strong
executive committee. The tnnnei beneath
the street will exteud from curb to curb,
will be arched over, the crown of the arch
being just under the water and gas mains.
There will be two tracks. Trains will be
run by steam at a high rate of speed.
Dr. Tntt’s Liver Bills act as kindly on
the tender infant, the most delicate fe
male find infirm old age, a3 upon the
most vigorous system, eradicating every
morbific agent,invigorating the deb’lita’.e..
organs, building up the flagging ner
vous energies, imparting vigor to body
and mind. Highly endorsed by the medi
cal faculty.
Is It Possible
That a remedy made of such common,
simple plants as Hops, Buchu, Mandrake,
Dandelion, etc., make so many and such
marvelous and wouderfnl cures as Hop
Bitters do? It must be, for when old and
R rich and poor, pastor and doctor,
and editor, all testify to having
been cured by them, we must believe • nd
doubt no longer. See other column.—

The habit of running over boots or
shoes corrected with Lyon’s Patent Heel

Brewer’s Buns Restorer.
To begin with, we will say that the
above is no “humbug” in any sense of the
word. It will accomplish all we say it
will, aud for the truth of this we take
pleasure in referring to all who have u d
it. It will cure consumption, and it will
cure bronchitis. The price is one dollar
a bottle aud if it fails to benefit we will
return the money as we do not propose to
charge anything for an article which we
indorse and recommend where it does not
come up to what we say. Very respect-

Dr. C. J. Mojjit—Dear Sib: Justice to
you demands that I should give you my
experience with your excellent medicine,
Teethina. Our little girl, just thirteen
months old has had much trouble teeth
ing. Every remedy teas exhausted in
shape of prescriptions from our family
physician. Her bowels continued to pass
off pure blood, aud burning fever contin
ued for days at a time. Her lile was al
most despaired of. Her mother deter
mined to try Teethina, and in a day or
two, there was a great change—new life
had returned—the bowels were nearly
regular, and thanks to Teethina, the little
bule is now doing well.

At Saratoga.—One of the notable
figurrs to be seen every day upon the pi
azzas and in the corridors of the Grand
Union Is Gen. G. T. Beauregard. This
renowned rebel chieftain is a man of
m dium height, square built, white hair
and moustache atid imperial, which look
like snowflakes. He is quite affable and
approachable, is out of politics and runs
the Louisiana lottery at a salary of 510,•
000. Gen. Beauregard bears considera
ble resemblance to the portraits of the
late Emperor Napoleon HI.
- The three countries where they mar
rythe earliest-are Hungary, Spain and
Greece. Marriages of boys of 14 and
girls of 12 are not uncommon. Among
the wedding presents there are always
several dolls, aud the happy pair spend
the honeymoon in playing hide and seek
and hop-Scotch.
“I have used Dr. Simmon’s Liver

satisfactory medicines that can be used.
Nothing would induce me to be without
it, and I recommend all my friends, if
they want to secure health, to always keep
it on hand.
