A Negro Fiend Kill* TUreo Persons,

From a gentleman who arrived in the
city last night from down tho Southwest
ern railroad, we have received the particu
lars of a most horrible affair, which occarred
Taesday night about four miles southeast
of Dover, a little villiage ten miles south of
Dawson, in Teirell county. Dover will be
remembered as the scene of the great Jones
murder some eight or tea years ago.
At the place designated there lived a
will-io-do and highly respected citizen by
thy name of Daniel Lee, with his wife.
There were no other white inmates of the
hoaw, but two colored girls were allowed to
sleep on pallets therein and were present
on Tuesday night. All four had retired,
when there came a knock from the outside.
Mr. Lee filled to know what was wanted,
when the voice replied that tho woods were
on lire, and that some of tho stock was in
danger. Mr. Lee, unarmed and suspecting
no danger, went out and into the woods
with the person outside. He had been gone
sometime when his wife heard him, as she
suppose J. coming into the house and got
ap and opened the door. As she did so,
she was knocked down by an axe in the
banJs of a negro, and probably instantly
killed. The negro then went in and find
ing the two girls asleep attempted to kill
tui-in. iio.-uiceeded with one and thought
he had killed both. One of the girls, how
ever, was only stunned and presently came
to her senses to find tho negro still in the
room counting out Mr. Lee’s money. With
remarkable presence of mind she made no
movement, and was not discovered. Even
after tho negro bad departed she kept her
place, afraid to stir, until after daybreak,
when examination showed her companion
dead beside her, Mr. Leo absent still, nnd
Mrs. Leo dead in the doorway.
Search was at once instituted for Mr.
Lee,but up to tho time the last messenger
left his body had not been found. There
is scarcely a doubt but that he was mur
dered somewhere in the woods and his
body hid. The towns of Dover and Daw-
wa were thrown into a state of high ex-
htemeut by the tidings of tho terribly
tragedy, aud a party was at once organized
to pursue the murderer. He was recog-
Eitd by the girl as Frank Hudson, a bad
character living in the neighborhood. A
a blow upon the head. He went in search
and drew the other from under tho bed by
the heels and gavo her a blow which he
supposed did the desired work. Her cheek
b one was broken and her shonlder mutila
ted. About 7 o’olock the next morning
consciousness returned, when the girl got
up and went out. Sho was met by a man
named Lee, a kinsman of David Lee. She
told him what had befallen the other girl
and herself. The dead body of Mrs. Leo
was soon found lying on the front stops.
The alarm was given, nnd 6earoh made for
Mr. Lee, whoso body was found a hundred
or two yards from tlio house. A fence rail
was doso by with his hair upon it, which
which indicates tho manner of his death.
Two hundred men nnd boys wero on the
hunt for Frank Hudson yesterday, who up
to this writing bos not been arrested.
About five hundred dollars in greenbacks
are missing. There was gold aud silver it;
the trank or chest, which the thief and
murderer did not find.
The following special to the Truxanurn
and Mjpisenqxb was received last night,
nnd will bo hailed with pleasure by all who
have read tho particulars of the crimo:
Albant, August l'J.—The negro Arthur
Wnde, alias Frank Hudson,who committed
the murder, the p irticulars of which Igave
yon yesterday, in Terrell county, was cap
tured last night about tea milc3 above
here, in what is- known 03 Red Bone dis
trict, Lee county, by Sheriff Edwards and
city Marshal Westbrook, of this city. He
confessed tho whole crime, and is attempt
ing to implicate two others, whoso names
he pretends not to remember. Tho negro
girl, who was only stunned, says there was
but the one negro.
About eighty-five dollars, a new pistol,
and several, other articles were found upon
bis person, nnd seventy-five or a hundred
dollars more accountod for. The ofHocrs
of Terrell county have been notified by
wire of his capture. Several young men of
tho neighborhood where the crime was per
petrated aro already here, and are very ret
icent in expressing their opinion os to what
will become of him. Oar people aro indig
nant, and can be seen discussing the affair
groups all around the streets.
Twenty-five bales of cotton arrived in
town yesterday, and sold readily at 10%

to Dawson—Ho will Hang.
From a passenger on tho incoming south
western train, we learn that Hudson, the
Terrell county murderer who was captured
near Albany, was on yestorday brought up
the rood to Dawson and lodged in jsU. It
is said there is scarcely a donbt but that
he will be hung. Tho only thing that re
strains the people is tho possibility that
others were engaged in the crime and thnt
a hasty disposition of Hudson’s case
would result in their escape. Tho Albany
News says;
Frank Hudson, the negro whose name
we published yesterday ns connected with
one of the most diabolical crimes on rec
ord, viz: the murder of Mr. David M. Lee,
his wife, and two colored servants, in Ter
rell on Tuesday last, was arrested on Thurs
day night by our efficient sheriff, F. G. Ed
wards, assisted by R. N. Westbrook, city
marshal, in Lee county, about eight miles
above Albany. Having ascertained that lie
was in tliat neighborhood, Messrs. Edwards
and Westbrook quietly left town early in
the night in that direction. Shortly after
passing the Dickinson place they met a
wagon coming towards town, occupied by
two negro men, one of whom proved to be
the object of their search. He was at once
arrested without trouble or resistance,
Sheriff Edwards seizing him by the portion
of his coat that contained his pistol. He
was brought to town and lodged in jail,
wnere he now lies.
Daring all day yesterday, after tho news
of his capture had become known, crowds
gathered around the jail to get a sight of
the prisoner. He was seen, however, only
by a few, among whom was a reporter of
the Hews and Advertiser, who passed an
hour or more in the cell with him alone,
rldttolladsoa’s domicile proved it vacant, and from tho prisoner ascertained a uam
rid Sailing his tracks, the party at once ber of facts in reghrd to the crime, many
jtrack out after him. They passed through
Smithville and Albany yesterday, and wero
chi* upon his tracks when last beard
from. Since writing the above the follow
in' special from Albany has been re
ceived:
TuesJ iy night about 9 a. m., a negro
h iilud at liu gate of a well-to-do and very
highly respected farmer, Mr. Daniel Lee,
living between Dover and Dawson, Terrell
county, in.! reported bis woods to be on
fire. Mr. l/.-o, in company with the negro,
left for the scene of the tire. Soon after
ward-, she negro returned to the hooso
alone and demanded of Mrs. Lee his sup-
per. Upon being told that sapper was over
end that there was nothing cooked in the
house, he struck Mrs. Leo in the head with
in ate. stilling her, and then proceeding
to where the cook was, knocked her in the
head; ai.-o, the servant girl, about fifteen
years >A age, who he supposed was dead,

e nne to. lie then robbed the house and
lift. The girl recognized the mnrderer as a
boy iiv.ng in the neighborhood and gavo
tire alarm, also a full description of the
crime a-.i perpetrator. Mr. Lee’s body

The recital of the facts connected with
the murder of Mr. Daniel Lee, liis wife and

03 & T 'ides. Such a cool, bold and devilish
outrage in this country has never come
beneath oar notice. From the Albany

'-wo accounts published below:

of which we are obliged, for reasons that
will be appreciated, to suppress. We may
state, however, that tho prisoner confessed
tliat he was a participant, but denied that
La struck or killed any one. He implicated
others as principals, and stated with par
ticularity the part each one took in the af
fair. Ho also stated whore the money
might be found. After the crime was com
mitted, the parties divided the proceeds of
the robbery, supposed to be between five
and eight hundred dollars, and separated,
the prisoner coming towards Albany.
When captured he had eighty dollars on
his person, in greenbacks and specie, which
he admitted was a portion of his part of the
spoils; also some articles of clothing which
he said had belonged to Mr. Lee.
Our reporter, on lenving tho jail, com
municated all the facts he had obtained
from the prisoner to Sheriff Edwards, who
at once took the steps their disclcsnro
would suggest to a vigilant official. We
feel assured that all the actors in this ter
rible tragedy will bo speedily brought to
justice.
The prisoner, Frank Hudson, is a coal
black negro, twenty-eight years of ago,
about fivo feat nine inches in height, and
rather sparely bailt, and has rather a good
countenance. Ho was born in Green coun
ty, and was owned by Mr. Bid Aiken at
tho time of emancipation. He lias bean in
this section some live or six years, and was,
for a time, in the employ of Dr. AUric&d
03 a driver, in Albany.
As hinted abqve, the prisoner’s confes
sion contained a number of other partica-
lars, which for prudential reasons, wo with
hold for tho present. It is greatly to the
credit of our efficient sheriff that this im
portant capture was so quietly effected,
and his courtesy and accommodation is
admitting onr reporter to au interview
with the prisoner alone in tho coll, has en
abled him to obtain most valuablu infor
mation, and, which it is needless to say,
was noted on at once.
A I’ si. ttch was sent to tho ordinary of
Terrell this morning announcing the cap
ture of tho prisoner, who replied that the
sheriff of 'ierrcll was absent, nni to bring
the jirisoner over by the first train, but oth
er matters connected with the disclosures
made by the prisoner to oar reporter, re
quired Sheriff Edwards’ attention in an
other direction, and Frank Hudson re
mains in the jail hero for tho present.

Tho lawyers now swarm in Saratoga, at
tracted by the meeting of tho Rational
Law Association, which takes place to
morrow. Prominent among tho latter was
Senator David Davis. In keeping with his
anxiety to fully inform himself of every
thing that is going on tho Senator sought
out Mr. CnthcArt, an owner of several
horses now on tho turf, aud requested him
to explain tho pool selling. The two went
to tho bettiug arena and the judge observ
ed the proceedings with intense interest.
Once or twico it seemed as though he was
about to bid. and it probably required tho
exercise of his i>owcrfa' self-control to re
strain him. “Goodness,” said he, when tiro
betting was at an end, I never felt such an
inclination to violate my principles since I
was a boy.”

Halem, IV. C,
THIS institution commends itself to the
public as a notably pleasant and safe home
and high-class school for girls and younj
women.
It has during the past- few years beei
greatly improved. Its Scholastic Arrange
ments have been remodeled nnd its stand
ards advanced. It now offers nil the ad
vantages of similar institutions of the high
est grade. A largo number of instructors
employed, and pains taking Inst ruction is
inranteod. It offers a liberal English, or
English and classical course for graduation
and. undor its now administration, has al
ready graduated (with diploma) four very
promising classes.
The Domestio Arrangements of the Acad-
omy have latterly been readapted to secure
to its resident pupils the largest measure
of comfort and convenience. Eight resi
dent teachers are continually in charge and
givo special attention to the cultivation of
correct manners and habi's in growing
girls. Systematic and enlightened physi
cal culture and care of health are promi
nent features in the improvements recently
te S£SUi facilities are offered for tho
study of Music. The results of practical
work in its Music Department, during the
past few years, would warrant tho Acade
my, in the judgment of competent critics,
in inviting comparison witbony other sim
ilar institution in the South. A two to
three years’ Graduating Course (with di
ploma) has quite recently been introduced.
Special attention is directed to the ad
vantages now also obtainable in the De
railment of Drawing and Fainting, which
las been reorganized and placed in charge
of n lady of special ability and superior
training. A high standard of excellence
will be maintained and the best methods
observed. A variety of branches of study
offered and careful tuition is guaranteed.

Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral
For Diseases of the Tliroat and Lungs,
such as Coughs, Colds, Whooping
Cough, Bronchitis,' Ashma,
and Consumption.
The few composi
tions which have
won the confidence
of mankind and be-
c out o household
words, among not
only one but many
nations, must have
extraordinary vir
tues. Porhaps no
one ever secured so
wide a reputation,or
maintained it so
long, as Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral. It ha3
been known to the public about forty years
by a long continued series of marvelous
cures, that have won for it a conlidcnco in
its virtues, never by any other medicine. It
still makc-3 tho most effectual cures of
Coughs, Colds, Consumption, thnt can bo
made by medical skill. Indeed, the Cher
ry Pectoral has really robbed the30 dan
gerous diseases of their terrors to a great
extent, end given a feeling of immunity
from their painful effects, that is well
founded, if the remedy be taken in season.
Every family should nave it in their closet
for the ready and prompt relief of its
members. Sickness, suffering, and even
life is saved by this timely protection. Tho
prudent should not neglect it, and tho wise
will not. Keep it by you for tho protection
it affords by its early use in sadden attacks.
