It i* greatly to bo regretted that the d s- poaition to prosecute qach other on tbe criminal side of the conrt for the moat trivial offense* prevaila to rn alarm ing extent among the negroes of oar community. The justice's court of this district was in session every day last week as a eoraiintment court for trial of isnes founded on warrant* aworn out by uogrots against negroes, nine- tentlm of which are prompted by malice on Uie impulse of the moment, and are finally compromised. There ia bot one good thing about it, and bat for one class —the ollicers collect costs. A long felt want has born supplied nt last by the enterprising firm of Orr Bros., who havo received and will keep for the nse of the pnblio a very iiandsomely finished hearse. It is with unfeigned sadness *f heart that we announce the death of (he infant daughter cf the late William O. Giles, at one time editor of the Louisville Countr. July 17.—Superior Conrt adjoarned Fri day at about 7 p. m. after dispoaing of a number of important civil casts, and nil of the criminal cases where defendants were in jail. The greed jury retnrntd a Urge numbe r of indictments and presentments, among the Utter several for violation of the Uws regulating the sale of liquors. In their general presentments they indorsed the action of the building committee, as to the oonstrnctiou of the new coirt house. They condemn the liquor traffic in the strongest terms. This lest, we believe, U destined soon to be a thing of the past; for a steady, bnt certain and powerful change, has been and is now going on in publio opinion, which will soon place Hancock county in her proper position on this que* lion. As to the liquor truffle in general, it iaaitrangecommenUry upon (he politi cal, moral and religions condition of our ooaatiTi that Kansas and Iowa should, u, popular vote, prohibit the manufacture nml sale of spirituous liquors, and Georgia should licence both.
