Tho dark side of kissing, as viewed by Dr.

Tho sleeplessness often complained of by
gonty persons Is dne to the poisonous t0‘ ct
of the morbid material upon the nervous
system. Exceeaive smoking, too much
slchol, tea and coffee, often resortea to by
overworked persons, are freqnently cause*
of sleeplessness. In all these casus the
cause is removable, while the effect may lie
counteracted by appropriate treatment
Nothing is more mischievous, however, than
to continue the habits and to have re
course to drugs to combat the effects. A
due amount of exercise tends to induce nor
mal sleep, and such exercise need not be ot
s violent character. A walk of two of three
milee daily is snfficient and is, perhaps, **
much as s hnsy man can find time for. A
ride on horseback, the Palmerston core f®v
gont, is probably tbe best form of exercise
for those whose minds are constantly at
work. It has been well said that s men
most come out of himself when in the sad
dle; he is forced to attend tohis bone end
to notice the objects be meets. Walking
may be a merely automatic process, and
afford little, if any, relief to the mind, and
carriage exercise mey be practically value
less if the mind is not diverted from what
had previously occupied it.
