After the pursued had vany endeavored to

turned to the buttle ground to find that,
after firing thirteen rounds at the old cat
the hunters And cat both had retired. He
watched, however, sitting on the doorstep,
and at nbout 2 o'clock in the morning
waa startled at the sight of two blaz
ing eyes peering arouud the house
corner at him. He seized a pitchfork and
went for the beast, which first trot'ed
leisurely across the barnyard, and then
turned and rose on its hind feet, when
Tasker drove the fork iuto its bresst. Ho
tried to tbro v the cat, but found it impos
sible. and just then the two h nters rushed
out in thtir stocking feet and shot the ani

opera strain thut woke the whole country

suddenly went into tho house. Next dny a
tr«il of blood forty rods long was found
leading to the wooits.
