Mahhiullville, October 1C.—The Ma-

meetings important farming operations are
discussed. Various agricultural experi

amount of valuable information can be de

During the year a corn contest was of
fered to the members, viz.: the contestant
making the greatest nnrnber of bushels on
one acre of average land, besides getting a
preminm, all the other contestants giving
one bushel of corn. About twenty mem

A SHOOTING AFFRAY.
A “Hlofftom" Between ZAudlortl and Ten
ant-Toe Tenant Shot.
HewklaavUle 1)1,patch.
On Friday night last, fonr miles west of
Hawkinsville, a “rlngtom" occurred be
tween Mr. Bob Harden and one of tonants,
a colored man known as Handy Whitehead.
The dispute arose over the sale of soma
cotton by Whitehead. Words were multi
plied until the lie was given, when Harden
struck Whitehead iu the face. Whitehead
advanced, pushing Harden baekward. Har
den fell, and Whitehead was soon on top
of him. During the scuffle on the ground,
Mr. Harden got out his pistol and shot
Whitehead. The hall took effect in theleft
breast, passed out and grazed him on the
cheek, hitting his left ear and cntling oil a
small piece of It, bnt not enough to utilize
for “sowce.”
Whitehead is not only a man of much
strength, but is a had man in a tight, and
be wrenched the pistol from the hands of
Mr. Harden and threw it on top of a cabin.
Ho then called to his family to bring his
gun. As this request whs not complied
with, be started into his house for it him
self, hut failed to return and use it
Whitehead’s wounds were not serious,
and we have heard nothing more from the
“ring tom."
