Large Bpenbffcan CooKrcMfonal Gains In Abraham Llncolu'a Old State. Chicago, November 3,—The Republican plurality in Illinois for State treasurer, head of the ticket, is estimated at from 23,000 to 27,000. The result on the Con gressional ticket, up to this evening, waa only a mniter of doubt in the Third, See - ond. Tenth, Eleventh and Sixteenth dis tricts. In the Second the contest between Lawler, Democrat, and Gleason, labor, is very close. One computation of the unof ficial returns electa Gleason by 18 votes. Tho Republicans claim that Geat, Repub lican, haa defeated Neece, Democrat, in tho Eleventh district by 400, and also assort that General Post, Republican, had defeat ed Worthington in the Tenth district. Both Republicans and Democrats claim the election in the Thirteenth (Springer’s) district. Tho vote in the Sixteenth is very cIobc, The Republicans have gained the Congress man in the Second district, Wm. E. Maaon, and one in Morrisou’B, the Eighteenth dis trict, Jehu Baker. ^ fhe Tenth, Eleventh, Thirteenth and Sixteenth are ut present represented by Democrats and if the Republican claims to carrying three of them should be verified, the net Republican gain in tho State would be five Congressmen; and if Gleason's claim to an election in tho Second is verified the Democrats would lose six districts in all. Later advices show definitely that Gest, Republican, is elected in the Eleventh dis. triet by 400 majority over Neece, Demo. In the tenth district (tenoral Post. Repnolican, claims a majority of 53 over Worthington. Fall semi-official returns in thirteen dig' triots give Springer, Democrat, a majority of 733 ovor Connolly, Republican. It U to bo hoped tb.t tb. bond, will not be van. celled until the metier bu been pu.nl upon by a competent jurisdiction. Ten ca.ee remain on the Cvatem circuit. Ou joint ballot the Republicans will probably hove a safe working majority in the State Legislature, though it is possible the farmers' alliance may bold tbe balance of power. The alliance vote has been one of the most serions initusnees affecting the Republican note. The vote for prohibition on the Elate ticket, while larger than ever before polled for prohibition in this Elate, is still too smell to ent any figure except in isolated districts. Tho bulk of it has come from Democrats not in sympathy with the low license platform of their pa: ty. It is yet too early to forecast a vote of tbe Legislature on bigh license, or United States Senators. The reduced vote of the Republican party on State and Congressional tickets is, It is claimed, quite as much due to dissension of the parly in tlie State to the couveriion as to the vigor- ous fight made by the Dtmocrnta for the first time in the history of the State. The Democrats are greatly tinted over tbe clcc tion ut three Congressmen, and arc hardly willing yet to concede the defeat of Ames for Governor, 3.me. O’Neil that Hoke 8 nltb' on the table.
