upon being asked if he had any statement
to make in regard to the charges against
him, he replied that bis attorney bad
required him not to tdk, but he woull
reiterate what he bad sail at first, that he
was innocent of murdering Matilda Gud-
ger. While it was true he was with her
the night of her death, it is not true that
ahe was murdered. Both of them got out
of the gin about three o'clock in the morn
ing and came out in the engine room.

it that eighteen masked men were seen on
