tare—OiUs Introduced.
Atlanta, December 3.—It appears that
the iuriatigirtiDR committee haa undertaken
a muoU butter job than was anticipated when
the resolution was introduced. Each ses
sion of the committee eeema to open up
oew fieldB for iuveatigation, involvts moru
men and brings out new transactions con
nected with the matters with which the
committee is charged, llow many pubho
official* and promiuent men are touched be-
tore tbe work of the committee is finished
it is impossible to say, bnt readers of the
evidence will note that many already promi
nent, not refer: ed to when tho ivestigntion
began, have been identified as dramatis
ptrsonw, and hive plaotd on them the
uunien of mating a clean showing. The
outlook is that it will be some time before
the committee can get turengh. It has
not yet concluded with the evidence
tn the first branch of the investigation;
the S'coud branch, relating to the Marietta
and North Georgia railroad, will not be
taken up before next week. There is already
a mass of stenographic notes of evidence
in tho hands of the stenographer, which
must be transcribed, and this wnl probably
be doubled next week. And it all rnuat be
put in shape before tho committee can re
view it and reach a report to be submitted
to the General Assembly, It may bo nec
essary for the committee to ask leave to sit
during tbe recess, if it should be deter
mined to bold a summer session. If there
should be no summer session, the present
session will have to be greatly protracted, if
this committee is to complete iis wotk.
The committee adjourned last night to
meet again at 3 o'clock this afternoon. Tho
place of meeting was changed to the Ssnato
chamber. At the hour appointed a p rtion
of tbe committee met, but at 4 o'clock a
quorum had not arrived, and Cli mman
Hnwkesadjonrned the session to 10 o'clock
to-morrow morning.
Colonel L. N. Trammell telegraphed the
sired to be heard before the committeo on of the
the subject of the $1,01)0 bond, which was roads,
given such prominence at the meeting last
night, lie will probably be present at the
eommittee meeting to-morrow.
Colonel L. F. Livingston, who has been
brought into the investigation by tho testi
mony of James I’. Hurrison, was present
this afternoon, lie d«t ires to appear before
the committee, and is apparently loaded.
Ua will be given a hearing to-morrow.
LCOISI.ATIVK NCITSS.
Whatever pnblic interest attaches to tbe
general work cf tbe Legislature it is plain
that t' e muss of the people are more par
ticularly interested in tho burdens of taxa
tion imposed upon them, and which they
must bear without regard to good or bad
seasons, or the results of their business or
callings. For gt nercl information tho fol
lowing tax provisions, reported by tho fi
nance committee, ore given; '1'he general
