boat J. M. White near Bayun Sira, Decem
ber 13 last, where some sixty lives were
lust. Tho conclusion reached is os fellows:
'All the testimony goes to show that the
boat was thoroughly equipped with all life
saving appliances required by law. The
boats were hanging on the tackles and the
crew were properly aroused fiom their slum
bers on the first alarm of fire, and were
it not for the nnfortunate oconrrenco

door and leaving it open, time enabling the
smoke to rush in and fill the cabin some
time bofore the fire got there and cut off

forward, and the officers of the boat who
